Job Description:

Come join the staff at the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences (OUHSC), a beacon of excellence in health education, research, and patient care. We are looking for a part-time speech-language pathologist to join our team in the iLEAP language enrichment pre-K program at the John W Keys Speech and Hearing Center. This is an opportunity to contribute meaningfully to the linguistic and social development of children diagnosed with or suspected of having autism spectrum disorders.

Duties:

  • Supports the iLEAP pre-K program through supervision of the classroom two days per week, as well as administrative/planning duties as assigned.
  • Provides clinical education support to graduate student interns in speech-language pathology.
  • Discusses client history, evaluations, and treatment plans with SLP graduate interns.
  • Creates goals and objectives for clients and identifies areas of progress and challenges.
  • Prepares engaging and client-centered exercises and activities for iLEAP sessions.
  • Provides counseling to clients and their families and consultations for new clients.
  • Educates clients, family, and caregivers on treatment and needs of the client.
  • Recommends appropriate services or treatment and/or referrals of clients.
  • Maintains continuing education required for licensure and certification.
  • May provide guest lectures in undergraduate/graduate seminars or courses as assigned.
  • Works effectively with individuals having diverse social, cultural, racial, and ethnic backgrounds.
  • Performs various duties as needed to fulfill the functions of the position.

Job Requirements:

Required education: Master's Degree in Speech/Language Pathology.

Skills:

  • Knowledge of Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) regulations.
  • Proficient with computer software used for documentation and report preparation.
  • Attention to detail when handling and documenting medical information.
  • Ability to communicate professionally and patiently with patients and families.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.

Working Conditions:

  • Physical:
    • Requires standing and walking, as well as the ability to sit and stand frequently.
  • Environmental:
    • Office/Clinical environment; pre-K classroom.

Certifications or Licenses: Applicants must hold or be eligible to obtain current licensure in speech-language pathology and be in good standing with the Oklahoma State Board of Examiners.

Department Preferences:

  • Experience working with preschool children on the autism spectrum and/or with augmentative and alternative communication (AAC).
  • Applicants to hold the certificate of clinical competence in speech-language pathology (CCC-SLP) and have completed a minimum of three years of practice post-certification.
