Chautauqua Literary Arts convenes readers and writers of all ages in community, conversation, intensive craft development, and exploratory learning opportunities. The Literary Arts Center at Alumni Hall includes meeting space for the Chautauqua Writers’ Center, Chautauqua Literary and Scientific Circle (CLSC), CLSC Alumni Association, and Friends of the Chautauqua Writers’ Center.
Will represent Chautauqua Literary Arts with a welcoming attitude towards students, visitors, and other community members throughout employment.
The position requires knowledge of hospitality and customer service skills, strong communication and organizational ability, computer literacy, digital competency, and attention to detail. Candidates must be able to work with strict deadlines and handle work volume with frequent interruptions. A strong interest in the intellectual work of Chautauqua, particularly its renowned Chautauqua Literary Arts programming, is essential.
About Your Compensation
Compensation for this position starts at $15.50/Hour and may increase to $16.50/Hour based on demonstrated experience and qualifications.
About Your Work Day
- Open the second floor of the building for the day (turn on lights, ensure classroom spaces are set up, check air conditioning units, and start the computer).
- Assist Managing Director of Literary Arts and Literary Arts Graduate Fellow in setup of classrooms and meeting spaces as requested by Chautauqua Writers’ Center faculty and Special Studies course instructors.
- Support technology requests for classrooms and meeting spaces as requested, including audio/visual technology support.
- Greet visitors and answer questions.
- Direct people to classrooms, meetings, gatherings, and restrooms as appropriate.
- Keep track of office supplies and alert when inventory is low.
- Set up and tear down audio-visual and other equipment; must be able to regularly lift 50lbs.
- Plan effectively for allocation of equipment resources.
- Maintain a clean, organized work environment.
- Take and record dues for the Friends of the Chautauqua Writers’ Center.
- Lock up at the end of the day.
- Other duties as assigned.
About Your Schedule
Flexible schedules, full and part-time, for seasonal employment during summer operations starting annually each June and concluding in August. Schedules typically include evenings, weekends, and/or holidays.
Will be scheduled to work an average of 20 hours/week. Scheduled hours may include evenings, weekends, and holidays based on business needs.
