Job Description

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Project Management: Oversee multiple projects with a focus on seismic, critical repair, and retrofit initiatives.
  • Team Supervision : Manage and supervise a team of design professionals throughout the design review process.
  • Design Coordination: Develop, coordinate, and manage the District’s design process for A&E services, ensuring alignment with functional, budgetary, environmental, and legal requirements.
  • Stakeholder Collaboration : Work closely with architects, consultants, and District personnel to ensure timely project completion, particularly for engineering and critical repair projects.
  • Compliance & Standards: Oversee building design processes to ensure adherence to LAUSD standards, educational requirements, and building codes.
  • Architect Selection : Establish a process to identify and select the most qualified architectural firms for each project.
  • Project Direction : Provide architects with clear guidance on project goals, standards, schedules, and budgets.
  • Design Review Process: Implement an effective design review process to ensure projects align with overall objectives and community needs.
  • Budget & Value Management: Ensure maximum value within the allocated budget while maintaining durability and functionality.
  • Design Change Oversight: Review design modifications to ensure projects remain within budget constraints.
  • Project Monitoring & Reporting: Track project planning and design status, providing updates, findings, and recommendations.
  • Additional Duties: Perform other responsibilities as assigned.


Minimum Requirements:

Experience:

  • 14 years of full-time professional experience managing facilities design or overseeing capital projects, including design, contract administration, cost estimation, and scheduling.
  • 4 years of experience must be in the design, planning, and construction of educational facilities or similar public-sector projects.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.


Education:

  • Required: Bachelor’s degree in Architecture or Engineering from a recognized university.
  • Preferred: Master’s degree in Architecture or Engineering.


Licenses & Certifications (Preferred):

  • Valid Certificate of Registration as an Architect by the California State Architectural Board OR
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license by the State Board for Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors.


Pay Range: $75 to $82 per hour


The specific compensation for this position will be determined by a number of factors, including the scope, complexity and location of the role as well as the cost of labor in the market; the skills, education, training, credentials and experience of the candidate; and other conditions of employment.
