Mid-sized book publishing house in New York seeks a full time Marketing Designer to conceptualize and create marketing and promotional materials for our list of commercial fiction and nonfiction books.

The position encompasses a range of design and illustration-related responsibilities associated with every stage of promoting books across all formats, including:

  1. Conceptualize and design print and digital assets to promote books, including magazine ads, social media graphics, emails, bookmarks, booklets and brochures, website assets, infographics, sell sheets, presentations, web banners, etc.
  2. Design ARC packaging (back, inside front and inside back covers) and prepare mechanicals to print
  3. Create original illustrations and logos
  4. Generate book mockups and retouch product shots in Photoshop
  5. Keep current understanding of design and marketing trends
  6. Experience with preparing files for digital and offset print
  7. Researching, sourcing, licensing and retouching stock photos and images
  8. Identify emerging design trends to suggest for potential implementation
  9. Closely collaborate on marketing projects with campaign managers / publicists, digital team, sales, and editorial team to brainstorm and execute visual concepts and campaigns
  10. Commission and supervise freelancers, illustrators and photographers as needed
  11. Route material for approval, maintain schedules, and prepare files for output

REQUIREMENTS
  1. 3 years of promotional design experience, preferably in both print and digital
  2. Advanced proficiency in the Adobe Creative Suite CC (Photoshop, InDesign, and Illustrator)
  3. Video editing software proficiency is a plus (Final Cut Pro, Premiere, etc…), but not required
  4. Knowledge of HTML5 and Adobe Dreamweaver a plus, but not required
  5. Understanding of image sourcing and licensing
  6. Understanding of the book cover design process and some technical knowledge of book production
  7. Speed, accuracy, and a strong conceptual background
  8. Strong design portfolio that demonstrates creative talent, a refined sense of typography, and a powerful sense of communication
  9. Ability to handle multiple projects, work independently and meet deadlines comfortably
  10. Self-starter with a proactive, optimistic outlook, strong work ethic, meticulous attention to detail and superior organizational skills
  11. Ability to assess target consumers and design compelling, creative visuals that will appeal to and engage them
  12. A strong eye and vision for high quality compelling images and graphic design
  13. Hand lettering skills a plus

Kensington’s offices are located in Manhattan. This is a hybrid role, with candidates expected to establish a schedule of working from the office 1-2 days per week.

The compensation range for this position is $50 - $63k/year depending on relevant experience, training, location, and market conditions.
