KPNX 12News, the NBC affiliate in Phoenix, AZ, is seeking a Reporter/Multi-Skilled Journalist (MSJ) to continue our tradition of superior reporting and newsgathering and live up to our brand of being “Dedicated to Journalism. Dedicated to You.” We are interested in finding a journalist who can report on breaking news live, create unique, memorable and well written stories and who can share them on all platforms with a mix of outstanding photography and unforgettable editing. LIVING IN PHOENIX
Phoenix is the country’s fifth largest city and is a fast-moving and dynamic news market. As far as lifestyle, the Phoenix area is filled with beautiful nature, resorts, golf, hiking, home to major concert tours and professional sports teams. A short drive from the desert and you are in pine forests, red rocks, historic towns and mountains with winter skiing just a short drive away.

Responsibilities:

  1. Enterprise stories and bring unique daily pitches to stand out from the competition
  2. Write, shoot and edit stories using the latest editing and photography tools, graphics and video to tell great stories
  3. Ability to report live in an engaging, clear and accurate manner
  4. Respond and investigate viewer emails and tips
  5. Operate news vehicle to and from various locations
  6. Write and post several times a day on all digital platforms including social media
  7. Write for the web, including attaching images and streaming video and live news events
  8. Community and/or talent appearances
  9. Perform other tasks as required by supervisor or executive producer

Requirements:

  1. BA/BS in journalism, communications or related field
  2. 3-5 years of experience preferred
  3. Experience in photojournalism, editing, and content management systems
  4. Understanding of the tenets of professional journalism
  5. A portfolio with examples of strong storytelling
  6. Ability to generate creative, engaging, content-driven live shots
  7. Strong social media skills, including an active news presence on social media platforms
  8. Knowledge of ENPS and Edius a plus
  9. Organizational skills and the ability to work under constant time pressure deadlines
  10. Ability to calmly handle live, breaking news situations and changing events
  11. Travel: Rarely: less than 10%
  12. Work Environment Set: Moderate risk: involves moderate risks or discomforts that require special safety precautions
  13. Physical Demands Set: Medium work: Involves standing prolonged hours, stooping, bending, lifting/pushing up to 25 lbs
