SUMMARY


The Industrial Designer, juvenile gear team, you will play a crucial role in designing products that help parents achieve small victories while ensuring the safety and enjoyment of babies worldwide. By utilizing consumer insights, you will create engaging opportunities through storytelling, thoughtful features, and outstanding design in color and form. The Industrial Designer of Juvenile Gear will be part of the Global Design and Innovation team and is responsible for evaluating and interpreting global insights and trends into appropriate and innovative solutions across numerous juvenile product categories.


This person will be involved in creating and leveraging the company’s annual style guide across multiple brands, such as: Baby Einstein, Bright Starts and Ingenuity to achieve outstanding and industry leading results which appeal to Kids 2 customers across the globe. Designers are required to have excellent technical skills, be detail oriented and to effectively collaborate with members of the design team in a fast-paced environment.


Proficiency in Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop as well as CAD programs such as SolidWorks or other 3D rendering software is a must.

This is a fun and challenging opportunity to gain hands-on experience and training in design with some of the leading brands in baby and toddler gear.


PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Create drawings, sketches and renderings to convey new concepts and ideas to engineering, marketing, packaging and management.
  • Communication of ideas is a must, convey the “story” of how concepts were developed and create pitches for product/collection ideas with storyboards, trend/mood boards, drawings, sketches, and high-quality renderings or animations.
  • Interpret and apply both trends and insights into excellent forward-thinking product design.
  • Create 2 and 3-D mock-ups and communicate scale and function.
  • Create 3D renderings to communicate design intent, evaluate CAD from vendors to ensure adherence to design vision.
  • Drive projects from inception to completion while balancing the design intent with constraints like cost, manufacturing processes, and stakeholder inputs/needs.
  • Prepare design specifications and product descriptions to document the construction of prototypes and for manufacturing release.
  • Create marketing materials and displays to aid in conveying and promoting new ideas both internally and to customers.
  • Participate in formal and informal reviews and brainstorming sessions to generate new product ideas.
  • Support pre-production efforts, including technical specification packages, approvals of tooling drawings, fabric samples, and pilot runs.
  • Other duties & responsibilities as assigned


QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

  • 2+ years of experience in design field is preferred, including internships or co-ops. (Juvenile gear industry preferred).
  • Requires attention to detail, excellent aesthetic sense for form and color, and high levels of cooperation and teamwork


EDUCATION & SKILLS

  • An undergraduate degree in Industrial Design, Product Design or equivalent work experience is required.
  • Strong visualization skills in 2D and 3D
  • Basic understanding of business strategy
  • Basic understanding of manufacturing materials and processes
  • Strong time-management skills


COMPUTER/TECHNICAL SKILLS

  • Proficient in Adobe Creative Suite – Illustrator, Photoshop, etc (required)
  • Digital sketching software - Sketchbook Pro (preferred)
  • Basic Microsoft Office software - Word, Excel, Powerpoint (required)
  • Surface modeling software - Alias/Solidworks (preferred)
  • Parametric modeling software – Creo / Autodesk (optional)
  • 3D visualization software – Bunkspeed /Keyshot (preferred)
  • 3D Printer experience (optional)


PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • While performing the duties of this job, the team member is regularly required to talk or hear.
  • The team member frequently is required to sit; have flexible use of hands; reach with hands and arms; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
  • The team member is occasionally required to stand, walk, and taste or smell.
  • The team member must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 - 50 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

In office 5 days a week and half day Friday
