Interested in strengthening your career in public service? Consider working as a Library Assistant II for the Nevada County Truckee Library. In this full-time position, individuals will perform the full range of assigned duties in an independent manner and receive only occasional instruction. Duties may include, but not limited to, providing excellent customer service, working the circulation desk, assisting with programs, and shelving materials. In addition to the expertise and skills of Library Assistant II, individuals will maintain a variety of manual and computerized record-keeping systems. This position encompasses/includes the role of the Adult Literacy Coordinator for our Truckee Library. The Library Assistant II will spend half of their time coordinating the Truckee Library's Adult and Family Literacy programs, and the other half on traditional library duties. Regarding the literacy coordinator role, responsibilities include finding local qualified volunteer tutors, matching adult learners to volunteer tutors, planning and executing literacy-related programming, as well as reporting program statistics with the support of the half-time Library Coordinator based in Nevada City. Literacy coordination is focused very heavily on working with adults who are non-English speakers who are seeking to become proficient in English or are seeking tutoring to complete a high school education.
Spanish language skills are required for this position. Spanish test may be administered prior to hire to ensure level of fluency. Other vital skills include: Standard and accepted library terminology and standard library practices Standard and accepted library materials and equipment Administrative/operational procedures and practices of the County's Library System operations and procedures A library assistant is an integral part of advancing your career in the field of library whose mission is to focus community attention on the value of the public library system! Compensation: This position will have an additional 10% Truckee differential pay and could be eligible for the rural health subsidies. Upon Spanish test completion and passing score there is an additional 5% bilingual pay. Position includes salary adjustments based on merit within the classification of employment. On each salary anniversary date, until an employee reaches the maximum salary step for the employee's salary range, salary and shall be advanced to the next higher step of the employee's salary range unless the employee's service is not satisfactory. The position is fully benefited.
