HRUCKUS is looking to hire a Senior RF Engineer / In-Building Wireless Consultant with 11+ years of experience to assist the Office of Unified Communications (OUC) within the DC Government. Position Description: The RF Engineer / In-Building Wireless Consultant is responsible for providing technical expertise in designing, implementing, and testing wireless communication systems. The ideal candidate will have at least five years of experience working with public safety communications systems, particularly Land Mobile Radio (LMR) systems. This position will support the design, implementation, and optimization of Distributed Antenna Systems (DAS) supporting FirstNet and P25 public safety radio communications. The consultant will work on various radio systems, DAS, and in-building wireless systems projects, ensuring compliance with industry standards and government regulations. Key Responsibilities:
Support various capital project tasks associated with radio system infrastructure, subscriber radio deployment, DAS systems performance monitoring and interference resolution, and the testing and acceptance of OUC projects associated with DAS and radio systems infrastructure. Develop criteria for approval of In-Building Wireless (IBW) proposals and applications. Review and approve IBW proposals for compliance. Review existing guidelines for IBW. Update requirements for IBW systems implementation and support when applicable. Perform field surveys of new and existing BDA installations. Troubleshoot IBW network interference on the Public Safety Radio System. Investigate IBW network coverage issues. Manage/coordinate encryption and OTAR upgrades. Develop radio training material for internal and external users. Develop technical guidelines for radio use. Maintain and calibrate Motorola P25 subscriber radios. Support OUC radio operations. Skills and Requirements:Technical Skills:
Strong experience with Land Mobile Radio (LMR) systems and Distributed Antenna Systems (DAS), especially in public safety contexts (FirstNet, P25). Proficient in radio frequency (RF) principles, troubleshooting network interference and coverage issues. Skilled in radio system testing, link budget analysis, and DAS performance monitoring. Knowledge of FCC regulations and compliance requirements for wireless systems. Project Management & Compliance:
Experience in managing system upgrades, requirements gathering, and design reviews. Familiarity with change management, system acceptance, and compliance with IBW system guidelines. Analytical Skills:
Ability to analyze and interpret technical data for system performance evaluations. Experience in hardware/software analysis to assess system suitability. Communication Skills:
Strong written and verbal communication for technical documentation, training, and stakeholder collaboration. Ability to train users and work effectively with internal teams and external vendors. Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Information Technology, or related field or equivalent experience. 11+ years of experience as SME in complex enterprise-level projects. 5+ years of experience working in public safety radio communications systems and DAS systems. 3+ years of experience with integration of P25 and 4G/5G DAS systems Infrastructure. 3+ years of experience with RF engineering tools to simulate 4G and LMR coverage analysis. 3+ years of experience in troubleshooting wireless systems, including LMR, 4G/5G, and DAS. Compensation: The target annual salary is $110,000 - $118,000.
