We seek a highly creative and business-minded Associate Designer to contribute to the Rebecca Taylor women’s apparel collections. This role is ideal for a designer with at least 5 years of experience working within the contemporary or premium fashion market who can balance trend-driven creativity with commercial viability. The Associate Designer will be key in researching trends, developing seasonal concepts, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to bring designs from concept to final production. A strong understanding of market trends, customer preferences, and business strategy is essential for success in this role.
Key Responsibilities:
- Trend & Market Research
- Conduct in-depth market research and competitive analysis to identify key trends in fabric, color, silhouette, and details for the contemporary and premium market.
- Monitor runway, street style, retail, and social media for emerging trends and translate them into commercially relevant designs.
- Present trend reports and mood boards to support seasonal concepts and product direction.
- Analyze past sales performance and customer feedback to ensure designs align with brand DNA and business objectives.
- Collaborate with the senior designer and design director to develop and execute women’s apparel collections that align with the brand's aesthetic and commercial goals.
- Create and refine sketches, CADs, and technical flats with attention to fit, fabric, and construction.
- Develop print, fabric, and trim concepts with textile and sourcing teams.
- Work closely with patternmakers and technical design teams to ensure proper garment execution from prototype to final sample.
- Participate in fittings, providing design input and adjusting details to ensure the best fit and quality.
- Partner with the merchandising team to ensure product assortment meets financial and strategic goals.
- Work closely with production and sourcing teams to ensure cost-effective fabric and trim selections align with quality standards.
- Communicate with overseas vendors and factories, reviewing prototypes and resolving design or construction challenges.
- Assist in preparing and presenting designs during internal and external design reviews.
- Create and maintain detailed tech packs, including specs, construction details, and color-ups.
- Ensure design files and seasonal documentation are organized and up to date.
- Track and manage sampling and approval timelines to meet key development deadlines.
Qualifications & Skills:
- Minimum 5 years of experience in women’s contemporary or premium apparel design.
- Strong understanding of fashion trends, market positioning, and business strategy.
- Proficiency in Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, and PLM software for design development.
- Experience in apparel construction, fit development, fabric selection, and trims.
- Strong sense of color, print, and textile design, with the ability to create compelling seasonal palettes.
- Highly organized with excellent time management skills to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
- Strong communication and presentation skills to collaborate across teams and with external partners.
- Passion for a modern, feminine, and sophisticated design that reflects the Rebecca Taylor brand DNA.
