Job Description
Senior Science Writer/Editor
Lexical Intelligence provides software and services related to processing large-scale biomedical information sources. Our Natural Language Processing (NLP) and analytics software is used by policy and decision makers to evaluate and prioritize current and emerging areas of research.
We are looking for a Senior Science Writer/Editor to work within the Immediate Office of the Director (IMOD) at the National Institutes of Health (NIH). The Senior Science Writer/Editor will have experience in scientific writing, communications planning, and materials development. The Senior Science Writer/Editor will have a firm understanding of NIH programs and biomedical research communications. The Senior Science Writer/Editor shall be able to work well within a team of communications professionals, meeting planners, and graphic designers. The selected applicant will be subject to a pre-employment background and reference check.
Qualifications
- 5-7 years of scientific writing and editing experience
- Bachelor's degree or other degree(s) in Science, Communications, Journalism or related fields
- Experience developing high-quality information products including reports, presentations, and other communications materials
- Strong knowledge of Section 508 compliance requirements for information products
- Ability to translate complex scientific information into clear, accessible content for various audiences
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience working with federal agencies, particularly NIH or other health-related organizations
- Knowledge of the Federal Advisory Committee Act (FACA)
- Experience supporting senior leadership communications in scientific or healthcare settings
- Familiarity with strategic communications planning and stakeholder outreach
- Experience developing content for websites and electronic media
- Ability to work under tight deadlines and respond quickly to urgent requests
- Experience with PowerPoint, Excel, and video/electronic media development
- Knowledge of NIH's mission, structure, and programs
- Experience with focus group planning and facilitation
- Experience with materials development and dissemination planning
