Job Description / Essential Elements

CLASS TITLE: ELEMENTARY VISUAL AND PERFORMING ARTS TEACHER

PRIMARY FUNCTION: Under the direction of the school administrator, teach one or more classes of art to students in grades K-6, and assist in other school programs as assigned.

REPRESENTATIVE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Teach concepts and skills in art to elementary students utilizing the course of study adopted by the Board of Education.
  • Instruct students in citizenship, basic communication skills, and other general elements of the course of study.
  • Provide instruction to develop aesthetic concepts and appreciations.
  • Adapt art material and methods to develop relevant sequential assignments.
  • Demonstrate art concepts using models and instructional aides.
  • Establish and maintain standards of student behavior needed to provide an orderly classroom environment.
  • Indicate each student’s progress in art knowledge and skills by report cards and interim progress reports.
  • Maintain professional competence through participation in in-service educational activities.
  • Encourage pupils to think independently and express original ideas.
  • Attend and participate in faculty and District meetings.
  • Communicate with parents regarding student progress.
  • Identify student needs and cooperate with other professional staff members.
  • Assist in the supervision of pupils in out-of-classroom activities.
  • Participate in curriculum and developmental programs.
  • Perform related duties as assigned.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Any combination equivalent to: Bachelor’s degree with major or minor in art. An exception may be made for the holder of a general credential.

LICENSES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

  • Appropriate teaching credential.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Environment: Intermediate or elementary school work environment.

Physical Abilities: Seeing to monitor student activities; Hearing and speaking to exchange information; Sitting or standing for extended periods; Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate instructional equipment.

Requirements / Qualifications

  • Must have a Single Subject Credential - Art or Dance (PE issued prior to 01/01/2022).
  • Letter of Introduction (Address to: Dr. Kevin Lee, Assistant Superintendent Human Resources Development).
  • Letter(s) of Recommendation (3 Letters).
  • Resume.

This position is for an 80% Visual and Performing Arts teacher and will be available at the Elementary School level for the 2025-2026 school year.
