The Position

The Episcopal Academy seeks an experienced and dynamic choral music teacher who loves working with middle school students and is a strong accompanist. The ideal candidate understands the needs and promise of young adolescents, knows how to motivate them, creates lessons that generate high engagement, and inspires an overall love of and appreciation for music. Responsibilities include teaching choral classes in the 6th through 8th grade, leading the Chapel service music, accompanying lower and upper school choirs in concerts, serving as the music director for the Middle School Fall Musical, and helping as necessary for the Upper School Spring Musical. Knowledge of proper vocal technique, choral arrangements, and understanding of the changing voice is essential. This person will also regularly support the EA Music Department's music programs, performances and opportunities and communicate about them to families, students and faculty. Experience in music technology, handbells, organ and guitar would be a plus.

The Episcopal Academy has a vibrant music program with offerings in orchestra, band, and chorus throughout the three divisions of the school. The music department works in collaboration with the theater, dance, and visual art departments to provide a rich array of experiences in the arts designed to cultivate expression, creativity, knowledge, skill, and understanding. We are looking for someone with the following qualifications to join our dynamic team:

  • A minimum of a Bachelor's Degree in music education or performance
  • Experience and desire to teach middle school vocal students
  • Experience accompanying on piano; organist experience would be a plus
  • Experience leading worship music with middle school students is strongly preferred
