Founded in 1994 by Prosper and Martine Assouline, Assouline brought the illustrated book market to life with products that were modern and creative. Today, the luxury book market has become an indispensable tool for luxury brands. Beyond "beautiful books" Assouline is invested in the promotion of culture. It has created the "first brand of luxury culture" by opening boutiques where one can discover a world of good taste, excitement and intellect, a place where "culture can be acquired" within a luxurious environment. One can purchase complete book collections as well as objects that belong in contemporary libraries such as perfumed candles and "cabinets of curiosities."
Assouline is seeking a Designer to join its creative team. This is a full-time position with benefits. We're looking for a strong designer to help design beautiful books focus on luxury lifestyle-fashion, travel, art, gastronomy, etc. Candidates should have excellent communication, multi-tasking, and creative conceptualization skills. They should be adept at working in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment and have the ability to juggle multiple projects at once.
Responsibilities:
- Reporting to Art Directors, Designer is responsible for approximately 10-15 luxury book projects per year
- Set up templates, design layouts, route materials within deadlines, review color proofs, gather files for printer, and marking-up for the production department
- Work with Art Directors, Creative Director, Editors, and Publishers from concept stage to finish
- Conduct art/image research
- Prepare files for reprints
- Design invitations and in-store signage as needed
- Liaise with outside departments, including Editorial, Communications, and Production
- Communicate and manage external vendors, including color separators and printers
- Take an active role in understand book production processes and issues
- Archive completed files on server for reprint updates
- Attend weekly status meetings
- Works aside Creative Director
Qualifications
- Minimum 3+ years print experience, with prior experience in the luxury industry a plus
- In-depth knowledge of offset print production a plus
- Strong typographic and color (CMYK and RGB) skills
- Superior attention to detail and organization skills
- Ability to prioritize and multi-task, meeting various deadlines at once
- Excellent knowledge of Max OS and Adobe Creative Suite applications: InDesign, Photoshop and Illustrator
- Knowledge of French a plus
