VelaMira is seeking an experienced Technical Editor to expand the consulting side of our company. The successful candidate would join our established team of contractors supporting a national laboratories program.

Preference given to Albuquerque-based candidates. Bonus points if the candidate also has experience developing classroom and online training materials.

The Technical Editor would be expected to perform the following functions as requested:

  • Perform a variety of editing levels on lengthy documents, communications, website copy, training materials, and presentations
  • Conduct quality assurance reviews ensuring that content aligns with established templates and writing standards
  • Review content to ensure it accurately reflects its subject (e.g., program specifics, websites, software)
  • Translate technical and business information into clear, user-friendly content
  • Collaborate with subject matter experts to gather feedback and incorporate revisions
  • Facilitate meetings with internal team members and external customers and stakeholders

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Minimum 10 years of experience in a similar role on a program within the DOE, DoD, NNSA, or national laboratories
  • Bachelor's degree (BA or BS) in Education, English, Instructional Design, Science, Engineering, or Computer Science
  • Minimum 5 years of experience working remotely and supporting distributed team members, customers, and stakeholders
  • Intermediate experience with Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Experience aligning content to technical writing and documentation best practices such as U.S. Government Publishing Office (GPO) Style Manual or Chicago Manual of Style
  • Intermediate written and oral communication proficiency
  • Working knowledge of team collaboration technology (SharePoint, Teams, Outlook, OneNote, other online or cloud-based systems)
  • Highly professional, strong business acumen, and able to quickly build rapport with personnel at all levels
  • Strong attention to detail

Desired Experience:

  • Certification in instructional design, training, or technical writing / editing
  • Intermediate to advanced experience of Articulate Storyline and Adobe Captivate, or similar software
  • Working knowledge of HTML5 and CSS

Additional Information:

  • Work Classification: 1099 Contractor
  • Schedule: Approximately 20 hours per week
  • Work Location: Preference is given to those based in the Albuquerque, NM area or planning to relocate here (relocation assistance is not offered). The ability to be onsite during some meetings is highly desirable.
  • US Citizenship: Required for this opportunity
  • Clearance: An active DOE L or Q clearance, transferable DoD clearance, or the ability to obtain one is required
  • Training: Some on-the-job training provided on the program, processes, and technology
