Base pay range: $90,000.00 / yr - $130,000.00 / yr
Skybound is looking for a clever Technical Artist to create advanced character and facial rigs, physical simulations, unique injury and destruction tech, and animation tools. The ideal candidate will be passionate about delivering efficient systems and high-fidelity characters, animation, and performances.
As a Technical Artist, you will work closely with character animators to build character and facial rigs to support a fast-paced, character-focused combat game. You'll influence key pipelines and game features from the earliest stages of development as we strive to set new standards in character performance and visual spectacle. You will work with cross-functional teams to create and optimize workflows, prototype features, and elevate the player experience.
Reports: This position will report to the Lead Technical Artist at Skybound Game Studios.
Responsibilities: Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Work collaboratively with a cross-functional team to contribute to the rigging and animation pipeline for both DCC and Unreal Engine.
- Create and maintain rigs (both body and facial) and skinning for characters, clothing, and props.
- Work with the Tech Art Team to research and improve deformations, damage states, and fidelity.
- Develop and maintain damage and destruction systems.
- Troubleshoot rigs, animations, hair and cloth simulations, and destruction models.
Basic Qualifications:
- Fluent in Maya with significant experience writing animation, rigging, and UI tools.
- Proficient in one or more programming/GUI languages (Ex. Python, PySide/PyQt).
- Experience shipping games with Unreal Engine through the full production cycle.
- Experience with cloth and rigid/soft body physics setup for characters, including collision volumes.
- A strong understanding of anatomy, gesture, and silhouette.
- Experience researching, piloting, and generalizing new techniques.
- Ability to translate creative ambition into achievable technical tasks.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Video games industry experience and/or gaming familiarity.
- Experience with JIRA, DeltaDNA, Perforce, and Confluence.
- End-to-end knowledge of game production processes, and ability to scale your role to each phase.
- Passion for video game development, combat-oriented games, and Skybound IP.

Salary Range: $90,000 - $130,000
