Job Description:

The Assignment Desk Editor – Producer is responsible for planning, preparing, and executing the news gathering functions by working closely with producers, reporters, and photographers.

  • Suggest stories for daily coverage as well as plans for future content with the news team.
  • Research and organize details and facts on story ideas.
  • Arrange and coordinate news content and interviews for daily and future stories.
  • Collaborate with reporters and producers on the editorial content of stories.
  • Review stories for elements, balance, storytelling, and script.
  • Collaborate with staff on story/sweeps planning and coordination.
  • Monitor all sources for news and establish/maintain contacts and sources.
  • Work under the direct supervision of the Executive Producer and complete any other tasks as assigned by the supervisor.

Responsibilities:

  • Plan, prepare, and execute the news gathering functions, including newsroom assignment, coordination of logistics, and monitoring news wires.
  • Plan and prepare content using the resources available and coordinate with the managing editor, executive producer, and show producers.
  • Assist in scripts (including writing) and the editing of a story.
  • Coordinate breaking news coverage and establish live shots and remotes.
  • Contribute story ideas and take charge of daily coverage decisions for newscast and platforms.
  • Quickly adjust to late changes and be aggressive in breaking news coverage.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
  • Backup producer as needed.

Qualifications

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Fluency in Spanish and English, with exceptional written and verbal communication skills in both languages.

  • This position is required to be performed full-time from an NBCUniversal designated worksite (Centennial, Colorado).
  • Willingness to travel and work outside standard hours, and on weekends with short notice.
  • Must have unrestricted work authorization to work in the United States.
  • Must be 18 years or older.
  • Must accept Solutions as NBCUniversal's Dispute Resolution Program.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience preferred.
  • Solid editing, writing, and production principles.
  • Ability to multitask and work in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
  • Accustomed to working in a team and collaborating with all levels within the organization.
  • Demonstrated strong attention to detail.
  • Proven excellent interpersonal skills combined with a strong sense of how to visually tell a compelling story desired.
  • Ability to create urgent, engaging, and conversational news copy and visuals under tight deadlines.
  • Team player who is flexible and works well under pressure.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.

Additional Requirements:

Required On-Site: This position is required to be performed full-time from an NBCUniversal-designated worksite.

This position is eligible for company-sponsored benefits, including medical, dental, and vision insurance, 401(k), paid leave, tuition reimbursement, and a variety of other discounts and perks.

Salary Range: $55,000 - $65,000 (based on experience)
