Mechanical Associate / Head of Design Required

True are exclusively representing a Multi-National Decarbonisation & Data-Centre specialist who work in partnership with local authorities and developers to create low carbon energy solutions for new build & retrofit projects across the UK & Europe.

They're looking to appoint a Mechanically bias Associate / Head of Design to build, lead and grow a Design department out of a new branch, based in Birmingham. You'll be responsible for approving designs for UK Decarbonisation projects, technically influencing new tenders alongside the Pre-Construction team and supporting the wider business on larger, complex projects and designs.

As the Head of Decarbonisation Design for the UK, you’ll work on a diverse portfolio of education, healthcare, and special projects, with potential expansion into MOD & MOJ projects. Typical project values range from £15M to £40M. New business will be sourced and secured through an internal Sales, Pre-Construction, and Bids department.

Mechanical Associate / Head of Design Requirements

• RIBA Stages 1-4 Expertise: Experienced in managing the design process from concept to technical development.
• Technical Competence: Ability to step in and support the wider Design & Pre-Construction team with complex solutions.
• Client-Facing Skills: Confident in handling client relationships throughout the design stages.
• Proven Leadership: Experience managing a Design team, ideally having hired, nurtured, and grown a department.
• Mechanical Bias: Strong preference for candidates with experience in designing plant rooms and energy centres.
