Responsible for serving patrons at the circulation desk at the Headquarters Library, and for performing a variety of clerical duties and can be assigned to work throughout Richmond County.
- Provides services to patrons at circulation desk by checking materials in and out, issuing new/replacement cards, answering simple reference questions, responding to telephone inquiries, performing opening and closing procedures, and balancing daily cash funds.
- Discharges, sorts, and processes library materials from local and state-wide delivery trucks and pulls and processes patron holds requests.
- Assists patrons with the use of public computers, online public catalogs, printers, and photocopiers.
- Performs shelf reading in assigned areas to ensure proper shelving and integrity of library materials.
- Checks new patron registration cards for accuracy, notes patron correspondence returned due to insufficient or invalid addresses, notes invalid email addresses.
- Works on projects based on computer database generated reports such as changing the status of new books, searching for missing/lost items, and weeding lists.
- Opens/sets up rooms and/or set up AV equipment for meeting room functions.
- Performs other duties as assigned. This may include working at other branches/departments on an as-needed basis.
POSITION SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES MIGHT INCLUDE:
- Responsible for patron service at the Headquarters library and can be assigned to work Richmond County-wide.
Experience: Two (2) years in customer service, circulation, readers' advisory and/or computers.Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
- Considerable knowledge of automated circulation system.
- Familiarity with library policy and procedures as they relate to circulation.
- Proficiency in public relations and supervision.
- Mastery of operating a cash register, calculator, computer terminal, laser scanner, and sensitizing/desensitizing machines, and copier machines.
- Familiarity with basics computer application Microsoft Office Suite.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently.
- Good communication skills, both oral and written.
Licensing:
- Possession of a valid driver's license with good driving history. If State license is other than Georgia or South Carolina, applicant must obtain a license in Georgia or South Carolina within 30 days of employment.
