is currently looking for a talented and self-motivated Principal Civil Structural Designer to join our Engineering team in Houston, TX. This is a great opportunity to get involved with exciting and challenging projects with long lasting customers.

This position involves the application of general design practices on steel and concrete structures utilizing CADD for creation of models and design drawings. The candidate will have the ability to select and recommend procedures in design and prepare preliminary designs for Engineers' approval. Performs non routine and complex assignments involving planning and executing a complete project of relatively limited scope or a portion of a larger and more diverse project. Selects and adapts plans, techniques, designs, and coordinates the work. Reviews, analyzes, and integrates the technical requirements and design approaches. Reviews work for technical adequacy and satisfaction of requirements. Position skills are heavily focused on civil structural design but have a working technical knowledge of other discipline design requirements. The candidate will have the ability to perform as the Technical Services Project Design Lead coordinating for the rest of the design team. May also serve as a designated checker on assigned project. Capable of leading and coordinating others within their discipline to successfully complete project assignments. Provide field support including field verifications for retrofit applications, as-built documentation, and installation supervision.

Responsibilities

Perform as a senior professional and Principal Designer able to supervise and instruct other designer and drafter personnel in the development of complex structural engineering drawings and models that meet client requirements, applicable codes, and specifications. Coordinate and schedule the work of a team in a particular group Develop detailed and accurate structural 3D models Select and recommend procedures in design and prepare preliminary designs for engineers' approval Ability to coordinate and run a 3D model review internally and externally. Develop detailed design drawings (structural steel and concrete) in a 2D and 3D environment Participate in project planning and preparation Assist in estimating project design and drafting manpower requirements Check and analyze drawings prepared within the team for dimensional accuracy, spelling, CADD and drafting standards, neatness, completeness, along with applicable codes, project specifications, and established discipline standards before being released to the approving engineers Check and analyze models prepared within the team for accuracy, completeness, and interferences Communicate with the project discipline engineers and designers to ensure collaboration in the design effort Coordinate with client and construction personnel to ensure the client's input and job requirements are adequately addressed and implemented consistently with the contractual requirements Ensure the company quality assurance manual and standard operating procedures are followed in completion of assigned tasks Check vendor shop drawings and construction drawings Train and instruct new employees in the use of CADD software and discipline reference resources Qualifications

Associate degree in Drafting/Design/Engineering Technology or equivalent job-related experience (2 years job related experience equivalent to 1 year college) Must have 12+ years' experience in engineering drafting and design practices, in addition to educational requirements Strong supervision skills with the ability to mentor, lead, train and motivate employees to produce quality work Demonstrate the ability to effectively utilize various CADD software applications according to project requirements Experience with Autocad or Microstation and Autodesk or Bentley Structural packages, AVEVA E3D or PDMS software is preferred Knowledge of ACI, AISC, OSHA and IBC Codes Knowledge and understanding of engineering/design & construction. Experience with AWP (Advanced Work Packaging) a plus Possess excellent organizational and time management skills Ability to thrive in a team working environment Strong interpersonal skills Proficient in Navisworks, Bluebeam Revu and Microsoft Office Demonstrate thorough technical knowledge and design practices of civil/structural drawings Must be able to understand and verify applicable design criteria and is familiar with the construction industry standards Must have good working technical knowledge of other discipline design requirements and interfaces Ability to work independently on design projects as well as interface with other disciplines as needed Ability to provide solutions/options to complex design related issues Overtime work may be required Occasional periods of field/office work entailing travel May be required to work in an industrial plant environment Preferred Qualifications:

Bachelor's Degree is preferred Holds a Lead Design position Senior level CADD operator

Physical Demands:

Employee will be required to communicate in person, via telephone, collaboration app, email, use of arm/hand steadiness, manual dexterity, finger dexterity, multi limb coordination, oral expression, and comprehension. May be required to lift, carry, and move objects safely.

Work Environment:

Work will be in a general office environment operating and functioning in a fast-paced work environment. Occasionally required to work in an industrial location where noise levels will be moderate to high. Job sites may contain the following: light to heavy equipment vehicles, small to large equipment, materials, communication equipment and tools, people standing, walking, sitting, signaling, and talking. Noise levels vary and may include bells, whistles, and alarms.
