The Discovery and Systems Development Librarian collaborates with library staff in the seven SMU Libraries and with other campus stakeholders to develop, enhance and support SMU Libraries’ discovery and content access systems and services. Through iterative evaluation, assessment, and usability testing of library systems, websites, and applications, the incumbent leads systems usability efforts and adapts new and existing web tools to improve the user experience with SMU Libraries’ discovery and content access applications and other online services/platforms. This developer works to enhance SMU Libraries’ enterprise systems and optimizes integration with third-party systems and applications in order to enable quality services and efficient workflows needed by SMU’s diverse community of library users. This individual provides technical expertise for the development, integration, and support of library systems, websites, and applications.
Essential Functions:
- Provide technical expertise needed for the development, integration, and support of a wide array of user-facing library systems and applications including PrimoVE, ILLiad, CONTENTdm, bepress, EZProxy, and SpringShare applications (LibGuides, LibAnswers, LibCal, LibWizard, LibInsight).
- Lead usability efforts by analyzing, designing, and implementing library websites and library systems user interfaces.
- Assist in the maintenance and administration of library systems and integrated applications.
- Participate in the development and assessment of a broad range of library technology initiatives and plans.
