The Technical Writer/Illustrator will prepare written technical publications in accordance with Project Engineer's and Supervisor's instructions to specific, established (Air Transport Association) specifications and individual customer requirements, e.g. ATA 2200, S100D and SGML format requirements.

The Technical Writer/Illustrator is responsible for the preparation of illustrative inputs (artwork) for manuals, Service Bulletins, Service Information Letters, Folding Procedures, and Technical Proposals.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Preparation of Component Maintenance Manuals (CMM) and Folding Procedures (FP) for use by our in-house personnel and customer's field personnel.
  2. Research and preparation of illustrated parts lists and parts breakdowns as required per document.
  3. Research and preparation of Service Information Letters and Service Bulletins.
  4. Coordinate with Technical Illustrators the preparation of illustrative matter (artwork, perspectives, and orthographic as related to the aforementioned duties and documentation).
  5. Interact with Technicians, Engineers, Manufacturing and other writers in gathering information for documentation updates.
  6. Reads and interprets company drawings, engineering drawings and ECN's when information is needed for direct input to technical publication documents (Service Bulletins, Manuals, S.I.L.'s).
  7. Participate in company validations of new programs and is responsible for recording, capturing and implementing changes agreed upon by the validating group (Manufacturing, QA, Engineering and Technical Publications Supervisor).
  8. Other duties as assigned.
  9. Preparation and layout of isometric drawings, 2D drawings and illustrations, exploded assembly instructional type (Component Maintenance Manuals, Service Bulletins), test fixture and special tools to support Technical Publication data requirements.
  10. Preparation of changes to artwork mandated by ECNs, EWOs, or other source of data.
  11. Preparation, writing and layout of instructions and art for Folding Procedures.
  12. No travel required.

Job Requirements

  1. Ability to read and understand a technical document.
  2. Experience with writing & the ability to follow formats and guidelines.
  3. Ability to work independently and as a member of a team.
  4. Ability to meet deadlines.
  5. Organizational skills.
  6. Strong communication skills.
  7. Ability to present status updates with supervisor support in meetings.

Associate's Degree (or higher) preferred with at least three years of related experience and/or training. Engineering or Technical background and two years Technical Writing experience.
