Job Description
We are seeking a Microwave Engineer for a position in Denver, CO.
Qualifications
- Perform microwave planning and design tasks in complex microwave engineering and backhaul networks.
- Guide and support vendors in planning, designing, developing, and optimizing microwave networks, including TDM and IP/MPLS backhaul networks, following design rules and topology guidelines.
- Design and document statewide complex microwave links and topology for existing and new sites.
- Review LOS studies, conduct site visits as necessary, and collaborate with field technicians to create MW RFDS, CIQ, and BOMs.
- Experience with PathLoss v5.1, Link Planner, and Google Earth is required.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Visio), MySQL, Perl/Python.
- Experience with Planet Design is beneficial but not mandatory.
- Conduct RF planning and dimensioning, including routing, microwave path analysis, radio path calculations, antenna sizing, and frequency planning.
- Understand network topologies such as Linear backbones, Ring, and Mesh.
- Plan capacity and traffic for transport network backhaul (SONET/SDH, T3/DS3, T1/DS1, DSO, and cutovers).
- Design and implement VRFs to migrate TDM traffic to IP/MPLS, with knowledge of OSPF, RIP, EIGRP, MPLS, VRFs, VPNs, Tunnels (L2TP, L3TP), BGP, and QoS (RFC 2544).
- Ensure timing and synchronization across TDM and IP networks (IEEE 1588, RFC 1305).
- Experience configuring and deploying Aviat Microwave Radios, routers, switches, and firewalls in an MPLS environment.
- Support microwave IP transport systems critical for RF signaling of Aviat and Motorola Radio and switch environments.
- Support and troubleshoot a mix of networking technologies including MPLS, VRF, and BGP within ISP/Telecom environments.
- Collaborate with vendors, PMO, Network Engineering, and Regional Operations teams.
- Architect and design networks for new services, identify improvements, and develop/implement acceptance-test plans.
- Determine necessary network equipment to meet requirements.
- Maintain network topology documents, designs, diagrams, and inventory records.
- Align with agency goals and strategies, providing metrics as needed.
- Understand OSS/NMS/EMS, SNMP traffic aggregation, and perform alarm analysis and troubleshooting.
- Work closely with NOC and field technicians for fault management and network support.
- Respond to support calls and escalations on a 24/7 basis as required.
- Automate configuration and provisioning through scripting.
- Design health check routines and diagnostic tools.
- Provide training and mentorship to team members.
- Develop procedures for network survivability and disaster recovery.
- Understand AC and DC power plant sizing and requirements.
- Create RFP/RFQ, review bids, and amendments.
- Develop training materials and conduct training sessions for technicians, engineers, and managers.
- Willing to learn and perform 10-20% of tasks related to IP/MPLS routing.
