Lead a team that specifies and validates the audio playback system of individual speakers to deliver best-in-class sound system quality.
Drive definition and development of product sound experience performance targets.
Collaborate with product management, DSP software engineers, acoustical engineers, embedded software engineers, ID, ME, EE, and others to develop products and experiences which balance customer needs with cross-functional requirements.
Support alignment efforts between physical acoustic design (including system hardware architecture, mic system, and transducer development) and signal processing.
Define and implement best practices and processes to accelerate audio system hardware development and DSP system specification and tuning.
Collaborate on advancements in subjective and objective evaluation of audio products.
Lead the efforts to simulate, prototype and optimize products and product ideas, and support the prioritization of those efforts based on the capacity of your team and the needs of the broader Sonos organization.
Facilitate communication and cooperation with partners throughout the company to focus the team on meeting near-term objectives while ensuring that team output and quality of work meet expectations and are aligned with necessary stakeholders.
Be a strong bi-directional communicator, facilitating the sharing of information both from senior management to individual contributors, and back from the individual contributors to senior management.
Mentor staff and support long term career development within your team.

Skills You’ll Need Basic Qualifications
A BS in acoustics, engineering, physics, computer science or similar discipline.
Experience in an engineering leadership position, with a track record of leading a high performing team including activities such as hiring, setting goals, and mentoring direct reports.
A high degree of comfort leveraging all technologies involved in the audio playback signal chain, such as loudspeakers, amplifiers, and signal processing.
Exposure to working with APAC manufacturing and engineering firms (aka JDM/CM partners).
Capable of coordinating complex activities within an interdisciplinary team.
Ability to identify where existing processes and methodologies can be improved and a willingness to engage in healthy debate about the way things are done.
Successful track record designing high quality audio products and bringing them to market.
Familiarity and experience with audio DSP functions such as limiters, compressors, arrays, crossovers, equalization, gain staging, and bass management.
Strong fundamental understanding of physical acoustics, psychoacoustics, and microphone and transducer functionality and design.
Excellent critical listening skills.
Experience with Audio System prototyping and tools development, leveraging commercial tools and hardware such as Matlab, Simulink, Python, Pro Tools, Max/MSP, Q-SYS, or BSS London, as well as custom hardware and software.
Proficient with audio system characterization tools, such as Soundcheck, Audio Precision, Clio, Smaart, Easera, etc.
Personal passion for sound quality and music. Active musician is a plus!
Preferred Qualifications
Experience managing and conducting critical listening evaluations for audio products.
Familiarity with music and home theater multi-channel immersive audio renderers such as Dolby Atmos and DTS:X.
Familiar with simulation tools such as COMSOL and EASE to model and predict audio system performance and characterize room interactions.
Bonus points if you have experience with microphone system design and/or validation.

Our job postings may span more than one career level and the base pay range may be modified in the future based on changing market conditions.
