Audio Engineers working for Biggest Little Studio are responsible for all audio content required for the games they are assigned; this includes music, sound effects, voice over, ringtones, and marketing material requests. The position requires high flexibility as it crosses multiple audio disciplines and often involves multi-tasking to meet deadlines. Effective communication with artists and programmers is essential.
Since audio implementation is handled by Technical Artists (TAs), Audio Engineers must communicate precisely to TAs and programmers regarding how and where audio should be implemented, using a standard implementation document. After implementation, the engineer verifies the files' functionality and ensures the overall audio mix and game feel are appropriate.
The role involves music composition in diverse styles such as Chinese, Japanese, Caribbean, Mariachi, Middle Eastern, African, Indian, Native American, European Ethnic Folk, Epic Fantasy, and Vintage American 50s-60s.
Required skills include:
- Strong knowledge of music theory
- Understanding of the recording process and signal chain setup
- Ability to mix in stereo and 5.1 formats
- Capability to set up and maintain a complex personal recording studio
- Ability to record and catalog custom sound effects
- Creating convincing sound design for animations
- Attention to detail to ensure proper audio implementation
- Reading music (preferred)
- Strong communication skills and ability to meet milestones
Additional qualifications include:
- Gaming experience (preferred)
- University degrees in relevant fields (preferred)
- 2+ years experience with major DAWs (Logic Pro, Sonar, Cubase, Pro Tools)
- Experience with audio editing software (Sound Forge, Wavelab)
- Experience recording and editing musician recordings and voiceovers
- Proficiency in at least one musical instrument
- Experience with creating custom sample libraries, JIRA, version control software (plus)
- Self-motivated, organized, quick learner
