General Summary of Position
The Director, Medical Staff Communications and Engagement, will be a key contributor to the success of initiatives in both the Communications and Public Affairs and Medical Affairs departments. This position will have responsibility for strategic oversight and tactical development of medical staff communications and engagement plans. The Director, Medical Staff Communications and Engagement, will report to the Assistant Vice President, Communications and Public Affairs, and will also work closely with the Chief Medical Officer and Senior Vice President of Medical Affairs, and the President, Medical & Dental Staff. The Director will maintain a high level of collaboration with medical staff administrative leadership and clinicians who lead specialty service lines.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
- Communicates core messaging to the Medical & Dental Staff from hospital and corporate executive leadership.
- Serves as communications counsel for Chief Medical Officer and Senior Vice President, Medical Affairs; President, Medical & Dental Staff and other physician leadership, including physician quality and safety director, clinical chairs and section directors.
- Assumes responsibility for the development and execution of tactical medical staff communications plans.
- Writes, edits and coordinates hospital communication vehicles for and about medical staff.
- Undertakes hands-on management of high-level administrative medical staff projects and participates in cross-functional teams and disciplines.
- Facilitates two-way communication between medical staff and administrative leadership, using new forums, tactics and methods of disseminating information.
- Hardwires ongoing medical staff recognition programs and helps to develop others.
- Creates new opportunities for members of MedStar Medical Group to meet and network, and to promote referrals within the MedStar system.
- Represents the department as communications counsel on various committees and task forces.
- Supervises freelance writers, photographers, graphic artists and consultants, and is liaison to printers as needed for any medical staff communications projects.
- Serves as primary liaison for communications vehicles between Communications and Public Affairs and members of the Medical & Dental Staff.
- Serves as communications counsel for Graduate Medical Education and for any communications needs of residents and fellows.
Minimum Qualifications
Education
- Bachelor's degree required
- Master's degree ideally in communications, journalism, or similar preferred
Experience
- 10+ years of experience providing counsel and guidance to executive leadership, preferably in the health care field.
- Experience managing a multi-page publication, succinctly summarizing meetings for distribution to medical staff.
This position has a hiring range of $93,142 - $175,968
