Overview
Artech House is an independent company with a history of publishing high level professional books for working engineers and scientists to help them solve the practical problems of today and tomorrow. Our bases of operations are in Massachusetts and London, and each office has an acquisitions program with one editor, working with a development assistant, responsible for publishing twenty books a year when settled in. Our fields run across the breadth of electrical and electronic engineering. We have strong lists in areas like wireless communications, GNSS, electromagnetics, computer security, and power engineering. This position reports directly to the Publisher and is responsible for doing the research and outreach to find authors, managing the review and development process, and handing off the finished manuscripts to the Director of Editorial and Production. Although a good percentage of our authors are academics, the focus is always on the professional market first and the academic second.
Responsibilities:
- Work with editorial and marketing teams to define cost and sales potential for each project.
- Submit completed manuscripts for approval to management.
- Issue contracts and conduct necessary negotiations post-approval.
- Attend conferences and visit centers of excellence and university engineering departments.
- Maintain communications with Series Editors and help keep a strategic three-year plan in each area.
The successful candidate must be outgoing and know how to be a team player. After a trial period, the Acquisition Editor becomes part of a management team which runs the company.
Minimum Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree or higher, preferably in one of the sciences.
- Two years of experience in acquiring books.
- Outgoing and positive communication skills.
We provide health and dental insurance and the opportunity to join 401K and flexible spending plans.
