Overview
We are seeking a Junior to Mid-Level Distribution Designer/Engineer for utility-scale projects focused on distribution in the Austin area. The role involves supporting projects primarily for Austin Energy, including overhead and duct bank work. The position requires training in AllCalc, and most tasks will involve working with AutoCAD and adhering to standards provided by Austin Energy.
Responsibilities
Work under the direction of Project Managers and Project Engineers.
Conduct analyses to develop design options, perform modeling or calculations, and prepare design sketches and concept drawings.
Collaborate with Designers and CAD Technicians to develop construction drawings in line with national design standards, safety codes, and project specifications.
Assist in preparing cost estimates and specifications.
Engage in typical design tasks such as electrical layout design, cable heating and sizing analysis, overhead and underground structure design, electrical equipment selection, and development of bill of materials.
Essential Skills
3-4 years of experience in Distribution Design.
Proficiency in AutoCAD.
Experience with electric/power utilities.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Knowledge of Microstation, Engineering drafting, power delivery, Utility Design, civil engineering, GIS, CAD software, Mechanical power & utilities design, and Maximo.
Work Environment
The work schedule is Monday to Friday, from 8 am to 5 pm. Initially, work will be conducted in an office environment for approximately one month during the training period, after which the position will transition to a fully remote setup with occasional site visits. Monthly meetings will be held where all designers come together.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $35.00 - $50.00/hr.
