Overview
The County of Yolo is recruiting for one (1) regular, full-time Youth Services Librarian position at the Yolo County Library. The selected candidate will be assigned to Youth Services at the Mary L. Stephens – Davis Branch Library and will work with a team of professionals, paraprofessionals, and community members to deliver quality services to youth and families in the City of Davis, and the West Yolo region.
The Position
The position will be responsible for planning, developing, implementing and evaluating system-wide and local programs, with a focus on children and teens 8-18 years old, including managing the budget; regularly providing outreach to the Davis Joint Unified School District schools and coordinating with school librarians; serving as a liaison with community partners; developing partnerships with other youth-serving agencies; applying for and managing grants and grant-funded services; and overseeing teen volunteers as well as training, supervising, and working with job coaches. Additionally, the position oversees teen-led programs, including afterschool homework help, one-on-one technology help, teen club leadership, and programs for younger kids.
The position may also assist with oversight and development of makerspace services and programs. Job duties also include all phases of circulation; reference and reader’s advisory services; technology assistance; collection maintenance for teen materials; engaging in system-wide committee work; serving as a Person in Charge responsible for opening and closing the branch; providing continuity of services; and ensuring library policies and procedures are enacted consistently and equitably. The position is expected to provide excellent customer service to the public and follows a youth development model of service and a collaborative culture of inclusion and community engagement. The incumbent is required to work regular evening and weekend hours.
The candidate selected will be placed at the Librarian I or Librarian II level depending on their background and experience and at the discretion of the appointing authority. The salary range for each classification level is as follows:
Librarian I: $57,158.40 - $69,492.80 Annually
Librarian II: $70,449.60 - $85,633.60 Annually
The Ideal Candidate
- Will be a community-oriented professional who is bilingual in Spanish or Chinese, though other languages may also be desirable.
- Should be enthusiastic about promoting the library to a diverse community and reducing barriers to access.
- Show a broad understanding of, and demonstrate support for, diversity, equality, and equity for everyone in the community.
- Commitment to maintaining equitable, inclusive, and respectful environments so that every person in the organization has the opportunity to reach their full potential and is valued for their unique qualities and contributions.
- Experience working in a multilingual, multicultural environment is highly desired.
- Will utilize their multilingual and multicultural knowledge and experience to not only perform their duties, but also to appropriately serve the community in a manner that is culturally competent and affirming.
