Overview
Advanced Technologies & Lab International, Inc. (ATL) is hiring for services supporting our partnership with Salado Isolation Mining Contractors (SIMCO) Central Characterization Program (CCP). ATL will perform safe and compliant waste characterization and certification activities at Los Alamos National Laboratory. The goal is to confirm the Acceptable Knowledge (AK) of national defense-generated Contact-Handled (CH) Transuranic (TRU), and CH Mixed TRU Waste. Visual exam operators play a critical role in ensuring the safe handling and disposal of radioactive waste, following strict safety protocols to protect themselves and others from radiation exposure.
Essential Functions and Job Responsibilities
- Perform high-quality visual examination of waste destined for transport to the WIPP facility, following conduct of operations policies and procedures.
- Demonstrate knowledge of Visual Waste Characterization (TRU mixed waste), Acceptable Knowledge, Data Quality Objectives, and related documentation.
- Complete and review TRU waste examination documentation with 100% accuracy.
- Adhere to documented procedures and meet operational and training requirements to stay qualified.
- Work effectively with team members, supervisors, clients, and external entities, providing sound judgment and issue resolution.
- Wear appropriate PPE and follow safety protocols when handling radioactive waste.
- Use specialized equipment such as radiation detectors and leak testers to identify hazards or defects.
Minimum Requirements
- Active DOE Q clearance.
- High School Diploma or GED with at least two years of experience.
- One year of experience at a DOE Nuclear Facility with waste management or similar hazardous materials.
- Knowledge of LLNL site and facility security requirements is a plus.
- Experience working in radiological laboratories and facilities is a plus.
- Proven computer skills and experience.
- Ability to use specialized equipment like radiation detectors and leak testers.
- Ability to follow procedures for handling and inspecting TRU waste.
- Ability to adhere to security and safety requirements.
- Strong data entry skills.
- Flexibility to perform various duties as assigned.
- Ability to work while wearing PPE, including gloves, respirators, and dosimeters.
Desired Qualifications
- Active DOE Q clearance.
- Current or enrolled in Human Reliability Program (HRP), supporting CCP operations, including data review of TRU Waste.
