Position OverviewThe
Research Assistant
is initially a one-year term position in the Department of Biology at Georgetown University College of Arts & Sciences. The Ries Lab of Butterfly Informatics studies large-scale patterns of insects, mostly butterflies, using a combination of laboratory and data-intensive approaches. This job requires general lab assistance (rearing and caring for experimental animals) but focuses on a computer vision project in the lab.
Duties Include But Are Not Limited ToHelp support animal care and tracking of development and survivorship.Oversee data entry and curation.Support the building of a computer vision pipeline connecting photographs annotated in the Notes for Nature web platform to a machine learning algorithm.
Work InteractionsReporting directly to the project's Principal Investigator, the Laboratory Assistant works collaboratively with senior research staff and administrative staff.
Requirements And QualificationsHigh school diplomaWorking knowledge of Fortran, Assembly, and Rust computer languagesWorking knowledge of Ubuntu and Linux computer operating systems
Work Mode DesignationThis position has been designated as Hybrid. Please note that work mode designations are regularly reviewed to meet the evolving needs of the University.
Pay RangeThe projected salary or hourly pay range for this position is: $17.50 - $26.16. Compensation is determined by various factors including qualifications, experience, education, skills, and certifications.
