The Editorial Planning Producer assists the Head of Planning and Senior Editorial Planning Producer in enabling our editorial teams to deliver unique reporting in long- and short-term coverage of global and national trends, news events, and social and political developments in line with the signature voice and concerns of the AJ+ brand. The individual in this role must be able to find events and stories for the AJ+ planning calendar that span the traditional news agenda but also shine light on stories ignored or underreported by traditional media. This role requires an understanding of online audiences and what stories appeal to each audience.
ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES Track a multitude of upcoming news events, both inside and outside the mainstream news agenda.
Maintain and contribute to an updated calendar of events and coverage for AJ+.
Revise plans depending on changing global issues.
Research story ideas and pitches.
Send out daily, weekly, and monthly pitches.
Pitch innovative ideas for AJ+ coverage.
Work directly with Editorial teams on planning for events and coverage.
Work closely with the Audience Development team.
Communicate with all editorial and engagement teams to ensure the highest level of coordination on planning and output.
OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES Research story ideas constantly.
Learn and understand what types of stories and formats suit different AJ+ audiences across different platforms (Facebook, YouTube, Twitter, etc.).
Support all members of staff in gathering story ideas and pitches.
Engage with the audience on social media in a professional manner while following network guidelines.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE A Bachelor Degree, or equivalent experience in online media or video journalism and planning.
3 years of proven experience in video production or online journalism.
Previous experience in editorial roles.
Sound editorial judgment of global issues.
A passion and commitment to the Al Jazeera spirit of journalism.
Sound communication abilities.
Ability to work under tight pressure and deadlines.
