PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Lead and manage hydrographic survey projects from initiation through completion.
- Develop project plans, including scope, cost, schedule, budget, and resource allocation.
- Monitor project progress and adjust as necessary to ensure successful completion.
- Coordinate with other departments and external organizations as needed.
- Review scope of work with RPLS/PLS of the project state during the proposal phase.
- Analyze and interpret survey data and supervise the creation of detailed reports, maps, and quantity tables.
- Ensure that all reports comply with industry standards and regulations.
- Build Department by providing leads on new work and new client contacts
- Oversee the design and execution of hydrographic surveys, including the use of sonar, GPS, Hypack, and other surveying equipment.
- Ensure the field methods are compatible with accurate data collection.
- Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues with survey equipment and software.
- Supervise and mentor a team of hydrographic surveyors, technicians, and support staff.
- Provide training and development opportunities to team members.
- Foster a positive, collaborative and productive work environment.
- Communicate effectively with clients to understand their needs and project requirements.
- Maintain strong relationships with clients and stakeholders, addressing any concerns or issues promptly.
- Serve as the Subject Matter Expert (SME) and provide expert advice and recommendations based on survey findings.
EXPERIENCE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor's degree in Hydrographic Surveying, Geomatics, Marine Engineering, or a related field (preferred).
- Professional certification or licensure in hydrographic surveying (e.g., Chartered Geographer, Professional Surveyor) is advantageous.
- Proven experience (typically 5+ years) in hydrographic surveying with at least 2 years in a management or supervisory role.
- Proficiency in hydrographic survey equipment, software, and data analysis techniques.
- Strong leadership and team management skills.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational abilities.
- Ability to work effectively under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
- Knowledge of relevant regulations, standards, and safety procedures.
- May require occasional travel to survey sites or client meetings.
- Ability to work in various environmental conditions, including outdoor and marine settings.
- Flexibility to work outside standard office hours if needed.
