Position Summary:
Brooks United Methodist Church is located in south Fayette County. Our vision is “Lifting up Christ-bringing hope and healing to our community and the world”. We are seeking a Director of Music Ministry to join our staff team who is passionate about leading the congregation in worship and sharing the grace and love of Jesus Christ through music. The Music Director is responsible for organizing, directing, and growing the music ministry of the church and encouraging persons of all ages to use their musical gifts to glorify God.
Preferred Qualifications:
Music degree preferred but experience considered.
Must possess strong vocal ability for leading the congregation in singing.
Proficient in leading and conducting rehearsals for individuals, small groups of singers, and choirs.
Flexibility in leading various skill levels of singers and musicians
Knowledge of both traditional and modern music selections. Eclectic in music interests and tastes is a plus. Familiarity with UMC music resources also a plus.
The ability to play guitar or another musical instrument will receive strong consideration.
Responsibilities:
Plans, coordinates, and implements an effective music ministry program that enhances the spiritual growth of the congregation and supports the mission and vision of the church.
Collaborates with the Pastor and other worship team members to design meaningful worship services based on selected themes.
Leads the congregational singing during all worship services.
Prepares and conducts regular rehearsals with the choir, individual soloists, or other groups of singers or musicians for weekly music presentations during Sunday worship services.
Prepares special music presentations for the Christmas and Easter season.
Effectively coordinates with the church pianist and provides music in a timely fashion for rehearsals and presentations in worship.
Encourages and invites new people and all ages to participate in the music ministry of the church.
Occasionally invites special guests or other groups from outside the church to share presentations with the congregation during worship services or other designated times.
Writes and submits music plan in a timely fashion for the weekly church bulletin.
Monitors and schedules maintenance on church instruments as needed.
Develops and administers an annual budget for the music ministry in conjunction with the Leadership Board.
Attends all staff meetings and planning meetings with the pastor as required.
