POSITION DESCRIPTION: This position will manage a current group of 3 Engineers as well as manage the photolithography process and thin film coating of optics department. We work with small-scale challenges that will make a significant impact to the customer. We design, develop, and support the production lifecycle of electromagnetic grids and thin film coatings for various optical systems. It is our responsibility to evaluate and measure the performance of the resulting grids and coatings. If you enjoy understanding how a production process influences an end product, fast-paced work environment and learning new skills, this opportunity will be an exciting role for you!
The responsibilities include but not limited to supporting manufacturing processes for optics, performing spectral measurements, providing technical guidance to operators, and applying lean manufacturing techniques. Additionally, the role involves investigating failures, leading non-recurring efforts, participating in research and development, and driving the adoption of new technologies (capital investments, automation, robotics) to improve efficiency and quality.
Individuals with a strong desire to learn are highly encouraged to apply. If needed, there is an opportunity to be trained.
Basic Qualifications
Strongly prefer a local applicant. Bachelor's degree or higher in Materials Science. Prefer Mechanical, Electrical Engineering, or Physics, or related discipline from an accredited college.
Must have past experience managing a group of professional level. Engineering direct reports. Must have skills, experience and/or course work in one OR more of the following categories of manufacturing engineering:
Will ensure ISO 9001 standards throughout the coating process. Thin film - Coatings - Photolithography - Vacuum systems - Materials characterization Microsoft Office software experience.
Desired skills
Breadth in skills, experience and/or course work across multiple disciplines of manufacturing engineering is strongly desired. Examples include but not limited to: writing/reviewing work instructions (or standard operating procedure manuals), data analytics, automation, and maintaining the product lifecycle.
Candidates with thin film coating specialization will have skills and/or experience in the design, manufacturing (physical vapor deposition, ion beam sputtering, chemical vapor deposition), and metrology of optical thin film coatings.
Candidates with photolithography specialization will have skills and/or experience with semiconductor fabrication processes (wafer preparation, coating, exposure, development, and etching) and with photolithography equipment (steppers, scanners, and track system).
Previous experience in vacuum systems, physical vapor deposition, sputtering systems, and advanced plasma sources is a plus.
Previous experience or knowledge of a variety of analytical and metrology techniques including but not limited to spectrophotometry, ellipsometry, interferometry, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and X-ray diffraction.
Knowledge of process control techniques, including statistical process control (SPC), control charts, and yield enhancement.
Demonstrated small team leadership skills. Ability to collaborate with other manufacturing engineers, quality engineers, operators, supervision, and electro-optical engineers to solve problems.
Having strong time management skills (ability to adjust priorities), ability to work independently, and able to communicate effectively with cross-functional teams are critical skills to support on the floor production.
