Essential Functions
- Plan music selections and serve as lead accompanist for liturgical celebrations.
- Distribute selections to choir, musicians, Pastor, and staff.
- Conduct weekly choir rehearsals and warm-ups before liturgies.
- Collaborate with parish Liturgy Committee (including Pastor) to enrich liturgical themes.
- Utilize both contemporary and traditional music. Introduce new and cross-cultural music.
- Optimize skills of volunteer music ministers through efforts such as transposition and modifying harmonies. Recruit, provide direction and support for, and foster community spirit among music ministers. Facilitate participation in resources and opportunities.
- Support planning of music for weddings and funerals.
- Collaborate in planning special celebrations and hosted musical events. Oversee good stewardship and orderliness of church, musical equipment, and choir areas
- Recruit, evaluate and schedule extra and/or substitute musicians when needed.
- Seek personal, professional and ministerial development and formation.
- Collaborate in preparing and administer annual budget for liturgical music.
- Develop and maintain choral library. Order new music as necessary.
- Schedule tuning, maintenance, and repairs as necessary for musical instruments.
- Attend staff meetings as time permits.
- Basic understanding of audio technologies.
- Ensure compliance with copyright requirements; submit music to parish office for reporting.
Position Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or greater, in Music or related field strongly preferred.
- A warm and engaging disposition is needed. Must be calm under pressure.
- Must be proficient in piano accompanient, choral conducting, and vocal coaching.
- Minimum three years prior experience as a liturgical musician or director of liturgical music preferably in a Catholic parish.
- Strong working knowledge of the treasury of sacred music, particularly within Catholic Church tradition; ability to integrate appropriate sacred music into each liturgical season and celebration.
- Good working knowledge of Catholic liturgical rites, including Sacramental celebrations, and the liturgical documents of the Catholic Church, particularly as they relate to sacred music.
- Strong organizational, pastoral, interpersonal, and collaborative skills.
- Practicing Catholic preferred.
- Basic computer skills.
Range: $27.00 - 30.00, Hourly
