Job Description
The Social Media Director is responsible for creating content, scheduling posts, and monitoring social media metrics. As the Social Media Director you will develop and champion the Okayplayer brand across Instagram, Facebook, Pinterest, Twitter, TikTok, and YouTube platform.This position will have the following responsibilities and duties.
- Develop and execute the social media brand strategy, with a focus on creative social-first content to increase followers, reach, and engagement across our core social media channels.
- Collaborate with the sales team to translate client goals and campaign briefs into high performing paid social campaigns.
- Develop qualitative and quantitative content performance goals.
- Work with the creative and content teams to develop and adapt social content that drives audience growth and monetization - balancing brand storytelling with platform best practices.
- Identify monetization opportunities on social platforms, including ad revenue share programs (e.g. YouTube Partner Program, Meta In-Stream Ads) and native monetization tools (e.g. branded content, affiliate links & social shopping).
- Conceptualize and produce engaging, original content for various social media platforms.
- Strategically develop and manage the annual content calendar for a consistent narrative.
- Create detailed event coverage plans, especially for high-profile events.
- Understand and apply copyright legislation and fair use guidelines.
- Ensure all content aligns with company policies and legal standards.
- Train the team on best practices and conduct regular audits.
- Monitor social media trends and analytics, adapting strategies based on performance.
- Foster a dynamic and collaborative team environment.
The Social Media Director should be an in-depth expert in brand culture, social trends, popular culture in general and Black culture specifically. They should have the following skills: education and experience.
- A critical thinker, who can interpret trends and who has copywriting skills with a can do results-oriented mentality.
- 5+ years experience in social media marketing, with direct experience managing paid social campaigns and collaborating with the sales team.
- Deep understanding of paid social campaign management on Meta (Facebook & Instagram), YouTube, and other major platforms.
- Knowledge of data driven social CMS and analytical tools like Parse.ly, Google Analytics, Sprout Social, SimplyMeasured etc.
- Proven ability to optimize content monetization, including best practices for platform-native monetization features.
- Deep knowledge of the Okayplayer voice and brand, as well as a passion for music, social justice, art, film, news, comedy and tech (particularly online communities and the web).

- Salary $6,500/month
