The person in this role will work from the Medtronic facility located in Mounds View, Minnesota. When fully functional in the role, the resource in this position may transition to a hybrid working model, reporting to the office three days per week and working remotely for the remaining days. We are seeking a creative and strategic Senior Service Designer to join Medtronic’s IT Innovation Lab. As Medtronic continues to evolve as a healthcare solutions company, it is imperative that we link advances in technology to the highest level needs of our customers, both patients and healthcare providers. Traditional feature-based innovation alone is not enough in the new economy to differentiate our products, self-disrupt, and create new opportunities for Medtronic to continue as the world leader in biomedical engineering. The Innovation Lab is an internal experience, design, and strategy consulting team at Medtronic. We use methods of empathy building and needs definition along with creative ideation and prototyping/testing practices to deliver the economic value for Medtronic Operating Units (OU) globally. In this role, you will lead the design and development of innovative, user-centered healthcare services that enhance patient and provider and employee experiences. You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including product designers, engineers, and healthcare professionals, to ideate, prototype, and implement impactful service solutions that align with our mission to improve patient outcomes. CAREERS THAT CHANGE LIVES Conduct user research to identify pain points, needs, and opportunities in healthcare service delivery. Map experiences with real world data. Design end-to-end service experiences, from concept development to implementation. Develop service blueprints, journey maps, and interface prototypes to test and iterate solutions. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate services with medical devices and digital health platforms. Drive co-creation workshops with internal teams and external stakeholders, including patients, caregivers, clinicians, and employees. Ensure scalability and sustainability of services while maintaining compliance with medical and regulatory standards. MUST HAVE
(Minimum Qualifications) Bachelor’s degree. 4+ years of experience with a bachelor’s degree or 2+ years of experience with an advanced degree. NICE TO HAVE
(Preferred Qualifications) Strongly Preferred:
Bachelor or advanced degree in Service Design, Graphic Design, or other connected discipline. 4+ years of experience in service design within healthcare, MedTech, or related industry. Ability to craft visual artifacts to communicate services, processes, and user interfaces. Highly proficient in the areas of user research, journey mapping, and insight synthesis. Expertise designing complex, multi-stakeholder services within a regulated environment. Stellar communication, facilitation, and collaboration abilities.
Experience with medical device and/or healthcare service innovation. Familiarity with digital health technologies and patient-centered care solutions. User interface design prototyping competencies for app, web, and embedded software. Salary ranges for U.S (excl. PR) locations (USD): $113,600.00 - $170,400.00. This position is eligible for a short-term incentive called the Medtronic Incentive Plan (MIP). The base salary range is applicable across the United States, excluding Puerto Rico and specific locations in California. The offered rate complies with federal and local regulations and may vary based on factors such as experience, certification/education, market conditions, and location.
