Overview: The Assistant Editor supports Editors and Producers on projects beginning with transcoding, loading and breaking down footage through finishing prep and wrap up of each project.
Broken Down Job Duties:
- Thorough understanding of Adobe Premiere Pro and Avid Media Composer, understanding of Final Cut X is a bonus but not required.
- Familiarity with the standard commercial post production workflow and pipeline is necessary.
- Set up projects in Avid or Premiere following company organizational practices
- Load and breakdown footage accurately according to each editor’s individual preferences using script notes from production
- If we receive footage un-transcoded - the AE must transcode it to appropriate edit specs before breaking it down.
- Liaise with Production and DIT regarding any situations related to footage we receive.
- Organize and post links using Frame.io
- Execute comps using Avid and / or After Effects
- Complete finishing preps and turnovers for audio, color, vfx and conform
- Search for temp music and SFX using agency or editor provided briefs
- Source and record scratch VO
- Resize spots for alternate aspect ratios (16x9 to 9x16,1x1,4x5 etc)
- Execute small edit tweaks or cutdowns with editor supervision
- Check WIP VFX and Conforms against locked offline edits
- Execute deliveries out of Premiere
- Work with Vault Managers to get job elements to final storage destinations on schedule
- Remain up to date on latest editing software advancements
