Dillard University, classified by the Carnegie Commission on Higher Education as a balanced arts and sciences/professions institution, located in the culturally rich and diverse city of New Orleans, Louisiana, invites qualified applicants to apply for the position of Assistant or Associate Professor and Program Coordinator of Mass Communication and Film Programs in the School of Humanities.

Job Description

This is a full-time, tenure-track position as an Assistant or Associate Professor and Program Coordinator starting August 1, 2025. The successful candidate reports to the Chair of the School of Humanities.

The Program Coordinator provides administrative oversight for the Mass Communication and Film programs, including class scheduling, reporting, assessment, evaluations, advising, teaching, and managing the Courtbouillon student newspaper.

Qualifications

Applicants must have an earned doctorate in Journalism, Public Relations, Mass Communication, or related fields; at least two years of leadership experience such as department chair or program coordinator; experience in securing extramural grants and research collaborations. For an Associate Professor role, a distinguished record of teaching, research, and service is required.

Essential skills include knowledge of copy editing, InDesign, online publishing, and AP style; 5-7 years of practical experience in print journalism and/or public relations; college-level teaching experience; leadership ability; program development skills; proficiency in Microsoft Office; and excellent communication skills.

Job Requirements

The candidate should demonstrate a strong commitment to undergraduate teaching and advising. Courses taught may include media law, media research, news writing, print editing, and public relations. Candidates should be capable of teaching in face-to-face, hybrid, and online formats. Responsibilities also include curriculum development, service activities, interdisciplinary research, and undergraduate research supervision.

The faculty member is expected to teach six credit hours per semester, hold six office hours weekly, and serve as Program Coordinator and Courtbouillon adviser. Additional responsibilities may be assigned.

Salary: Commensurate with experience.
