Visiting Assistant Professor of Music Therapy

Shenandoah Conservatory is seeking nominations and applications for an exceptional music therapy teacher and practitioner. This one-year visiting position, housed within the Conservatory Academics Division, begins August 2025. It is a full-time benefited position located on our main campus in Winchester, VA.
Responsibilities
- Teach undergraduate and graduate music therapy courses
- Advise and mentor undergraduate music therapy students
- Participate in music therapy program events (e.g., Colloquium, IPE, etc.)
- Support recruitment efforts
- Additional responsibilities based on qualifications and experience
About the Music Therapy Program
Established in 1974, the program has been a leader in the field and aims to be Virginia’s premier and progressive music therapy education and training center. It offers undergraduate and graduate degrees and certificates, with a focus on innovative, forward-oriented curricula. Students engage in hands-on clinical experiences, comprehensive coursework in musicianship, and interdisciplinary learning through IPE and IPP. The program also offers Virginia’s first Masters in Music Therapy and Professional Counseling, enabling dual Board Certification (MT-BC) and LPC credentials.
Required Skills
- A PhD (including ABD) in music therapy or a related field; Master’s degree candidates will also be considered
- Music Therapy Board Certification (MT-BC)
- At least five years of clinical experience as a music therapist (or equivalent)
- A passion for teaching and innovative pedagogy
- Commitment to student well-being and belonging
- Strong collaboration skills
