Position Summary:The Graphics Assistant works closely with Explora's GraphicDesigner and Director of Exhibits to aid in designing, producing, and mountinggraphic panels for exhibits and museum public spaces.
Essential Duties andResponsibilitiesResponding promptly to requests for new or replacement graphics by locating, printing, laminating, and mounting graphics or working with the Graphic Designer and Director of Exhibits to design and produce new graphicsFrequent use of computer-based graphic design and production programs, laminating machines, printers, scanners, paper cutters, and other graphic production equipmentInterest in developing more sophisticated graphic design and production skills
Functional WorkCharacteristics Requires effective eye-and-hand coordination and manual dexterityRequires standing and walking approximately 25-50% of the time, with regular need to perform physical actions that could include sitting, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, handling materials, pulling, pushing, and carryingMay occasionally require lifting of various materials and equipment to a maximum of 50 poundsWork Conditions Most essential duties are performed in a museum and office environment with exposure to avariety of business equipment and otherpertinent materials normally found in this type of work setting.Museum facilities may expose employee to high noise levels, crowds, temperature changes, liquid nitrogen, helium gas, electrical exposure, unpredictable ventilation, dust, and physical obstacles.Work is normally performed in an area of limited privacy .

Basic computer skillsFamiliarity with Windows computers and design and illustration programs (e.g., Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator)Current attendance at a post-high school educational institution, preferably in an art- or design-related programEligibility for work-study positionsAbility to work both independently and as part of a teamExcellent organizational, interpersonal, planning, verbal, and written communication skillsPortfolio or design examples helpful
