DEFINITION
Under the immediate supervision of a higher-level officer, this is entry level investigative work that reviews and verifies case data for income maintenance programs in selected cases to determine accuracy and timely delivery of services. Work involves regular monthly reviews of randomly selected cases processed to ensure compliance. Work is reviewed upon completion for accuracy and compliance with applicable rules, regulations procedures and reporting requirements.
DUTIES (NOT ALL INCLUSIVE)
- Reviews and verifies case data in selected cases to determine accuracy and timely delivery of services.
- Verifies the documentation collected through face-to-face interviews and collateral contacts.
- Prepares reports to outline and summarize each case reviewed, detailing all errors or deficiencies found.
- Performs other related duties as required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
An Associates of Arts degree from an accredited college or university.
OR
High School Diploma or its equivalent from an accredited institution and two (2) years of experience in investigating, interviewing techniques, or related work.
FACTOR 1- KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED BY THE POSITION
- Knowledge of local and federal rules, regulations governing the food stamp program.
- Knowledge of computer applications.
- Knowledge of basic mathematics.
- Knowledge of interviewing and investigative techniques.
- Skill in attention to detail.
- Skill in basic computer operations.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
- Ability to communicate orally and in writing.
- Ability to manage time to meet deadlines.
- Ability to operate office machines.
FACTOR 2- SUPERVISORY CONTROLS
The supervisor assigns work monthly, daily supervisory assistance is provided, and work is checked upon completion.
FACTOR 3- GUIDELINES
Guidelines consist of local and federal rules, regulations, and policies, as well as departmental memorandums.
FACTOR 4- COMPLEXITY
Work is recurring in nature. Employee performs tasks requiring general knowledge of relevant policies, methods, and procedures.
FACTOR 5- SCOPE AND EFFECT
The purpose of work is to make sure that the customer has received the appropriate number of benefits and to ensure no fraud was committed. Also, to determine if there is an error corrective action needs to be taken.
FACTOR 6- PERSONAL CONTACTS
Contacts are co-workers, customers, other government agencies, private institutions, and the public.
FACTOR 7- PURPOSE OF CONTACTS
Contacts are made to obtain verification and/or documentation of case data.
FACTOR 8- PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Work requires walking, bending, stooping, lifting case files and driving.
FACTOR 9- WORK ENVIRONMENT
Work is performed in an office setting; some risky and hazardous situations may exist on field visits.
