General Summary:
Vertex is seeking a talented leader to join our US Diabetes Business Unit to support our aspirations of bringing multiple potentially transformative cell therapies to people living with Type 1 Diabetes (T1D).
The Director, US T1D Patient Marketing will lead all patient marketing efforts within the newly created US Type 1 Diabetes Business Unit. They will be responsible for helping shape the overall US launch strategy, and developing and executing against the patient promotional marketing strategy and tactics. The Director will plan and execute all activities through personal and non-personal channels, driving awareness and education of our approved therapies. The successful candidate will have an ability to thrive in a fast-paced, innovation-focused environment with demonstrated strong communication skills, ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams, and have a problem-solving and analytical mindset. This role will report to the T1D BU Head of Marketing.
Key Responsibilities:
- Leverages primary and secondary research to develop clear, actionable insights that accurately inform the key drivers and barriers for patient adoption.
- Works cross functionally to ensure an integrated launch and brand strategy for patient-related activities, that is joined up with functional partners (e.g. corporate communications).
- Ensures that the brand strategy is translated with an effective tactical plan for patients and caregivers that can be executed, measured, and adjusted.
- Leads appropriate data and tech efforts to support patient awareness and education, working closely with our data and tech teams.
- Measures the impact of our initiatives based on ROI and agilely pivots our investments to maximize impact, constantly looking for opportunities for automation and efficiency.
- Seeks a deeper understanding of the market landscape through opportunities for direct patient learning and insight generation, and aims to shape Vertex’s position as an innovative and trusted partner to the community.
- Collaborates with internal Legal, Medical, and Regulatory partners to deliver a compelling, effective brand campaign for patients and caregivers.
- Works with external agencies to execute promotional strategy and tactics through personal and non-personal channels, while ensuring external partners remain on-time and on-budget.
- Develops strong partnerships with cross-functional teams to support business goals and engage above role including close partnership with the field, HCP, patient support, and disease education counterparts, serving as a peer leader on the marketing leadership and launch readiness teams.
- Role models and instills a culture of compliance focused on ethics and integrity in all we do.
Knowledge and Skills
- Experience driving brand campaigns, ability to oversee generation of insights, and apply those insights to business problems/opportunities.
- Experience developing communications/tactics in U.S. or global marketing is required.
- Specialty product launch experience is preferred.
- Analytical mindset, with ability to make strategic recommendations, monitor performance, and adjust.
- An entrepreneurial and innovative spirit, with an ability to develop creative solutions to complex problems.
- Comfortable working in a highly collaborative and results-driven environment within a growing business unit where we are concurrently learning & building as we drive towards product launch.
- Demonstrated understanding of the legal, regulatory, and compliance requirements for pre- and post-approval activities and ability to model expected behavior for the team.
- Strong written communication skills, presentation delivery, and interpersonal skills to be effective in a team environment.
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree required.
- Typically requires a minimum of 10 years marketing, consulting or agency experience in healthcare/biopharmaceuticals, and demonstrated supervisory/management experience, or an equivalent combination of experience and education.

Flex Eligibility Status:
In this Hybrid-Eligible role, you can choose to be designated as:
- Hybrid : work remotely up to two days per week;
- On-Site : work five days per week on-site with ad hoc flexibility.
