The Associate Marketing Director, Strategic Innovation will lead upstream marketing efforts for the Advanced Repair & Reconstruction platform, a high-growth business within the Surgery business unit. This key leadership role, reporting to the Marketing Director of Strategic Innovation, will manage and execute strategies to drive both short-term and long-term portfolio growth. This individual will lead cross-functional teams to identify and prioritize unmet needs through Voice of Customer (VOC) efforts including ethnography, one-on-one interviews, surgeon advisory boards and labs, qualitative and quantitative market research, etc. Inputs will be leveraged for preparation and presentation of business opportunities to senior leaders and will include detailed financial analysis and technological assessment. The Associate Director, Strategic Innovation will also manage and develop direct report(s) through execution of prioritized programs. The BD Interventional Surgery worldwide business unit is a leading developer, manufacturer, and marketer of innovative, life-enhancing medical technologies. Our Advanced Repair & Reconstruction platform delivers best-in-class soft tissue management solutions to help surgeons enrich the lives of patients across multiple specialties including hernia, colorectal, and plastic surgery. RESPONSIBILITIES: Develop a deep understanding of the soft tissue management space including market trends, clinical needs, technological advancements, competitive positioning, and white space opportunities. In collaboration with platform and regional leadership, establish short and long-term innovation strategies to support market leading positions. Lead market research (procedural, technological, competitive positions, pricing, segmentation, adoption) with an emphasis on Voice of Customer (VOC) including ethnography, one-on-one interviews, surgeon advisory boards and labs, qualitative and quantitative surveys, etc. Analyze VOC and identify insights to advise and direct comprehensive NPD strategy. Lead identification, evaluation, and selection of the most promising innovation opportunities, both organic and inorganic. Prepare and present new business opportunities to senior leaders based on market opportunity, revenue potential, IP, and technological assessments. Effectively partner with business leaders, R&D, medical affairs, regulatory affairs, HEOR, market access, and other functions to build out value propositions, claims, and clinical/economic evidence in support of business objectives. Collaborate with global marketing to provide commercial leadership for new product development from idea phase through launch phase. Manage, coach and develop Advanced Repair & Reconstruction team members. Actively encourage and support a positive culture within the Advanced Repair & Reconstruction Platform. Demonstrated track record of driving for results, a strong sense of urgency and a commitment to achieving goals. Strong financial, analytic, and critical thinking skills. Dedicated customer focus to support needs identification, concept down select, and value proposition development. Ability to use sound, independent reasoning and judgment to establish priorities and identify ways to optimize project timelines and mitigate project risks. Experience effectively balancing multiple competing priorities in a fast paced, high-growth environment. Proven ability to independently identify, prioritize and successfully advocate for and execute opportunities to drive high growth or improve business performance. EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor’s degree required. MBA or advanced degree preferred. Minimum 9 years of experience in medical device marketing, engineering, or a related function with proven marketing capability including upstream, downstream, and market development.
