About The Job
As a Technical Writer at Solar Stik, you'll turn complex technical details into clear, user-friendly documentation that keeps our customers, field technicians, and internal teams on the same page. Whether you're crafting specification sheets or developing training manuals, you'll ensure every document is not only accurate but also easy to understand. This role offers variety at every turn-one day, you might be refining an FAQ, the next, you'll be managing revisions for a product update. Collaborating with sales, engineers, and designers, you'll create customer-centric content that reflects our brand's voice and technical excellence.

What You'll Be Doing
- Technical Documentation: Compose customer-tailored specification sheets, customer-facing slick sheets, system diagrams, quick reference guides, product manuals, and system manuals with clear, precise, and user-friendly language.
- Content Accuracy: Review and validate all written materials for technical accuracy, completeness, and adherence to engineering standards.
- Enhance Readability: Translate complex technical concepts into straightforward, concise, and visually appealing documents tailored for a variety of audiences, including customers, field technicians, and internal teams.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Collaborate with Engineering, Sales, and Customer service team members to collect specifications, integrate captivating visuals, and create documentation aligned with customer needs and product functionality.
- Standardization: Develop and maintain templates and formatting guidelines to ensure consistent and properly branded documentation across all materials.
- Regulatory Compliance: Ensure all documentation meets relevant industry and government standards, with special attention to DOD and regulated environments, for technical communication.
- Revision Management: Maintain ongoing, accurate, and comprehensive documentation by regularly updating and revising based on product updates, feedback, and Engineering Change Orders (ECOs).
- Training Materials: Develop courseware, presentations, and learning material for user training, and cross-functional training for Sales, Engineering, and Customer support team members.
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Technical Writing, Engineering, Communications, or a related field.
- Experience: 3+ years proven experience as a Technical Writer, preferably in manufacturing, engineering, or a related industry.
- Required Skills:
- Exceptional writing, proofreading, and editing skills with the ability to translate complex technical information into digestible, user-friendly content.
- Proficiency in documentation tools such as Adobe Acrobat, Adobe InDesign, CorelDRAW, Microsoft Office Suite, and specialized software (e.g., Visio).
- Ability to read and interpret engineering schematics, product specifications, and system designs.
- Basic understanding of engineering principles, technical drawings, and manufacturing processes.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple projects under tight deadlines.
- Certified Professional Technical Communicator (CPTC) certification from the Society for Technical Communication.
- Background in industries like renewable energy, autonomous power systems, government contracting, and/or defense is strongly preferred.
- Familiarity with CAD software or technical illustration tools.
- Experience with ISO documentation standards.
- Familiarity with markup languages like XML, HTML, or Markdown for structured content creation.
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Ability to safely lift and carry items weighing up to 35 pounds independently.
- Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team to lift and move items exceeding 50 pounds when necessary.
- Comfort working in a manufacturing environment with moderate noise and temperature variations.
