Job Description

We are currently seeking a Counsel - Privacy and Advertising to join our Corporate Securities & Compliance team based in our New York, New York headquarters.
JOB SUMMARY
The primary purpose of the role is to support the Company’s compliance with data privacy and consumer protection laws, and its digital advertising partnerships; and assist with other corporate-related matters, governance, and initiatives. Reporting to the Senior Counsel, Compliance and Privacy, this position will focus on implementing and maintaining data privacy compliance initiatives as we continue to build and strengthen our data privacy framework and drafting and negotiating contractual agreements governing personal data and digital advertising.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
- Review, negotiate, advise and draft, as needed, data protection agreements, including all contracts involving the collection of data, terms of service, membership agreements, vendor agreements, and other contracts and communications.
- Provide privacy legal advice across businesses in relation to digital media and advertising contracts and emerging technology and business-related issues.
- Support the day-to-day management of the Company’s data compliance programs in domestic and international markets, including maintaining and implementing new practices/policies to comply with personal data privacy and protection regulations.
- Liaise with U.S. and International lawyers as issues arise and/or if new data laws are created, including working with the EU Data Protection Officer to oversee and monitor ongoing privacy and data protection compliance activities.
- Manage rights request (DSAR) workflow for customers globally.
- Conduct data discovery and advance AMC’s data mapping initiatives across the globe to manage and ascertain its dataflows.
- Collaborate with marketing, advertising, research, and technology teams to assess and maintain currency of consent management across distribution platforms.
- Educate the business on privacy and data protection developments and conduct relevant and applicable trainings.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with marketing, research, business intelligence, and advertising to implement and apply a consistent data strategy.
- Conduct data privacy risk assessments and develop work plans to address identified risks.
- Provide legal support to technology team for PCI compliance and vendor risk assessments.
- Maintain working knowledge of applicable, forthcoming, and proposed data privacy laws in relevant jurisdictions where AMC operates as applied to the Company’s business operations.
- Negotiate and draft agreements supporting AMC’s digital advertising business as a publisher, including insertion orders, terms and conditions, and master service agreements with SSPs, DSPs, ad exchanges, advertisers, agencies, holding companies, and suppliers of ad products and services.
- Manage applicable contractual agreements and licenses with advertising analytics and attribution partners.
- Monitor and analyze development of regulations and industry standards and advise on data privacy and other regulatory issues in the context of digital advertising.
- Collaborate with AMC business stakeholders, including ad sales, ad ops, distribution, and marketing teams.
- Develop and implement scalable processes to support flexibility and nimbleness of the advertising teams.
- Work with marketing and product teams to ensure promotional offers, signup flows, and subscription renewals follow applicable federal and state laws.
- Support customer service team to address legal issues arising from consumer inquiries.
- Provide legal support to Research group on review of agreements, as needed.
- Assist with other legal corporate projects and tasks as requested.
QUALIFICATIONS (Required & Preferred)
- J.D. from an accredited law school, strong academic credentials and Member of NY Bar in good standing.
- 4-6 years' relevant work experience including experience at a law firm. In-house experience a plus.
- Knowledge of global privacy and data protection laws, including U.S. (state and federal) and GDPR.
- Understanding of advertising industry self-regulatory principles, Interactive Advertising Bureau (IAB) ad products, cloud and clean room technology a plus.
- Ethical, with a strong understanding of compliance risks, and a good sense for practical solutions; business friendly and pragmatic.
- Ability to grasp best practices and use them to provide client solutions.
- Experience in digital advertising, technology, media, information security, and/or consulting fields a plus.
- Excellent negotiating, drafting, analytical and communication skills (written and oral), and ability to work with others within group and across divisions.
- Demonstrated creative, flexible problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Excellent organizational skills and ability to manage multiple projects at once, follow through and meet deadlines.
- Eagerness and ability to learn and retain new substantive matters quickly.
- Ability to juggle a high-volume workflow and adapt to shifting priorities.
- Ability to demonstrate sound judgment even in ambiguous situations.
- Ability to work independently while being able to contribute successfully to cross-functional teams.
The base compensation range for this position is $150,000 to $160,000 commensurate with experience.
