The Dallas Symphony Orchestra seeks an Audio Technician to manage the audio technology needs of the Morton H. Meyerson Symphony Center. The Audio Technician provides technical support with daily/weekly operation, integration, patching, maintenance, and repairs for in-house audio equipment, including audio networks, PA system and audio recording components, and associated data network infrastructures which are utilized for concerts, rental events, live streaming, and teleconference meetings within the Meyerson Symphony Center Lobby, Symphony Suites and/or Concert Hall.
Duties include (but are not limited to):
- Requires a working knowledge of audio equipment, including FOH and Monitor mixing experience for live music concerts, and multi-track audio recording, with an understanding of the requirements for a concert hall designed for symphonic music.
- Provide ongoing technical support for in-house digital audio network and digital audio workstation.
- Assist with on-going installation, operation, maintenance, inspections, cleaning, and basic repair of venue performance audio equipment to ensure safe, efficient, reliable functionality.
- Assist with cost-effective procurement and/or coordination of related components, parts, tools and consumables necessary to maintain audio systems.
- Assist with teamwork set up and operation of movable acoustic canopies, reverberation doors, curtains, rigging, electrical equipment, lighting equipment, video equipment, staging and other necessary technical support for rental events.
- Assist with preventative maintenance and ongoing repairs for concert hall acoustic equipment, as well as rigging components, and other theatrical equipment at the Meyerson.
Administrative Documentation
- Provide advanced consultation with clients and colleagues to coordinate audio requirements for concerts, public events, live streaming, and teleconference functions.
- Maintain check-out system for all in-house AV equipment and provide accurate audio equipment inventory.
- Provide written event reports to track ongoing repairs and create detailed written cross-training notes for operational processes/procedures of audio systems.
Customer Service
- Provide excellent customer service for performing artists, vendors, rental clients, and general public, while maintaining and communicating venue policies, safety guidelines and processes as published.
Other duties as assigned
The ideal candidate will possess:
- A bachelor’s degree in technical theater operations or related electronic technology;
- At least three years of experience;
- Knowledge of audio/video equipment and sound engineering for FOH, Monitors and Recording (frequently used equipment and programs include: Midas M32, Behringer X32, Yamaha, Allen&Heath, London BSS, EAW, Meyer, VUE, Shure UHF-R, Clear-Com, LabGruppen, Ravenna, Pyramix, and Crestron);
- Familiarity with theater practices, equipment, rigging, and facilities and the requirements for a hall acoustically designed for live symphonic music;
- Self-motivated work habits with commitment to delivering high quality projects on time and on budget;
- Ability to coordinate multiple events in fast-paced work environment;
- The ability to work at heights up to 80 feet and lift 50 pounds; and
- The ability to work flexible, irregular hours as needed, including holidays, nights and weekends.
