POSITION DESCRIPTION
The Access Services Manager oversees the library’s daily operations and circulation services. The Manager runs the course reserve service, oversees collection maintenance, and handles patron circulation requests and space concerns. This position also trains and schedules all work-study students at the library.
POSITION ACCOUNTABILITIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Manage and coordinate the daily operations of the library facility, circulation services, and collection maintenance.
- Train and supervise library work-study student staff.
- Supervise Library Assistant responsibilities related to space management and access services tasks.
- Maintain and interpret statistics on attendance, peak hours of operation, fines, and other information as needed.
- Manage course reserves processing and upkeep.
- Act as the final arbitrator for patron complaints regarding circulation.
- Oversee periodicals, including loading records, quick cataloging, and filing claims.
- Work with the Technical Services Librarian on processing new library acquisitions.
- Manage social media for CCS Library with the support of the Library Assistant.
- Provide basic reference and information services to library patrons.
- Assist the Library Director with policy development related to library access services.
- Assist the Library Director with processing vendor invoices and creating monthly budget reports.
- Work a flexible schedule as needed, with possible evening and weekend hours to ensure appropriate coverage of the library facility.
- Ensure a friendly, welcoming environment and atmosphere that pulls from and exemplifies current trends and innovative practices within the library field.
- Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
Required Qualifications
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree.
- Experience working in a library.
- Knowledge of databases such as integrated library systems (KOHA).
- Skills in standard office software such as Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to work in a team environment as well as independently.
- Supervisory or managerial skills.
- Self-motivation, reliability, and punctuality.
- Versatile problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Coursework in art and design disciplines.
- Experience participating in interlibrary loan services.
- Experience with book repair.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
This job operates in a professional office and college campus environment. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. The employee is occasionally exposed to outside weather conditions.

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to maintain a stationary position, use a computer and other office equipment, and communicate effectively in person, by phone, and virtually. Frequent interaction with others, including staff, faculty, students and third parties is required. The employee may occasionally be required to move files or other objects weighing up to 25 pounds, including from low and high places. The ability to move around within the office and between buildings on campus, attend off-site meetings and events, and travel between Ford Campus site to Taubman Center site are required. CCS will make reasonable accommodations that will allow individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
