The Audiovisual Production Specialist consults on all audiovisual productions at the ICA, while maintaining the audiovisual equipment inventory and overseeing the safe operation and maintenance of sound, lighting, rigging, and related equipment and systems used in support of lectures, performances, films, and related events.The ICA maintains a robust public programming schedule and is a venue for numerous on and off campus partners, the Audiovisual Production Specialist plays an important role in providing an engaging and safe experience for all stakeholders.The Audiovisual Production Specialist reports to the Director of Facilities and Experience Design, works with colleagues across the ICA and VCUarts, is supported by a team of hourly, student, and contractual employees and is an integral liaison between the ICA and the communities it serves.Job ResponsibilitiesAudio Visual Support 40 %•Provide consultation and technical support on complex audiovisual productions, including but not limited to, artist performances, media festivals, classes, and special events both inside and outside of the ICA auditorium•Program sound, lighting, and other technical systems in advance of performances and productions•Plan, organize and implement the operation of performance- related equipment at the ICA including sound equipment, microphones, speakers, lights and lighting control panels, projectors and other technical systems used during programs and performances•Employ proper safety practices and procedures for self, talent, clients, and colleagues•Maintain a calm mental athleticism during programs/performances, while troubleshooting day-of issues, including technical, staffing, facility, etc.•Coordinate with talent, clients, and colleagues to determine technical needsAdministration 40 %•Respond thoroughly and thoughtfully to internal and external inquiries within one business day•Oversee the hiring, management, and training of a team of PT A/V technicians•Manage the regular scheduling of a team of PT A/V technicians•Collaborate with the ICA Registrar and Digital Asset Manager to ensure all media captured by audio visual staff is managed in accordance with institutional best practices. Including but not limited to file naming, media file formatting, and placing files in proper short and long-term storage locations.•As needed, hire and oversee independent contractors and payments for their services•Hold a university P-card for auditorium related purchases, including short-notice performance-related purchases, and correctly follow all procurement-related policiesAudio Visual Equipment Oversight 20 %•Oversee audio visual equipment•Ensure daily inspection of the auditorium and backstage areas, communicate facility repair needs to supervisor and/or VCU Facilities staff, and/or external contractors, and oversee equipment-related maintenance and repairs•Be proactive in identifying and communicating any equipment or facility-related issues•Monitor the condition of all A/V equipment and coordinate the inventory, repair and replacement of production equipment, including lighting and sound equipment, special effects equipment, and related equipment and electronics•Alert supervisor to persistent issues, needed repairs, and/or upgrades, and help inform annual auditorium budget•Serve as the ICA's Fixed Asset CustodianQualifications Minimum Qualifications•Demonstrated knowledge of and/or experience with operating and maintaining equipment and tools used in technical A/V operations, including projection, sound, lighting design, and video production•Demonstrated experience with operating and troubleshooting Crestron automation systems and related hardware•Good organizational and time management skills•Strong interpersonal and verbal communication skills•Ability to work in physically demanding situations, including heavy lifting up to 50 pounds and working at heights•Flexibility to work nights and weekends•Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff and student environment or commitment to do so as a staff member at VCU•Experience with standard office equipment, including computers and related software applicationsPreferred Qualifications•Undergraduate degree in theater design or technology, arts, music or other related field, or equivalent experience•Minimum 5 years of experience providing specialized audio visual support in an institutional/professional capacity•Demonstrated experience with pre-performance, performance, and post-performance activities•Demonstrated experience of working with a diverse roster of talent•Demonstrated experience working with creative teams, complex planning processes and equipment•Experience with digital audio consoles that employ Dante protocol•Experience with lighting design software and consoles•Knowledge of maintaining, installing, and repairing audio visual equipment•Knowledge of safety and regulations in audiovisual design•Strong understanding of electrical and lighting codes•Knowledge of principles and practices of stage rigging•Experience managing a team of PT/on-call AV techs FLSA University Employee Job FTE 1 Exemption Status Exempt Restricted Position No E-Class UF - University Employee FT Job Category University Employee ORP Eligible No Salary Range Minimum starting salary $50,000 Compensation Type Salaried Target Hire Date 3/25/2025 Contact Information for Candidates VCUarts Human Resources artshr@vcu.edu(804) 828-2787 Documents Needed to Apply To Apply:Submit a resume, cover letter, and a project portfolio.
