Job Description
Position Overview: As Customs Entry Writer, you will play a crucial role in ensuring that all import entries are accurately classified and submitted to U.S. Customs. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in customs compliance and a deep understanding of the importation process.
Key Responsibilities:
- Enters and transmits Customs entries
- Review Customs Notes to ensure proper release is obtained and summaries are filed
- File ISFs and follow-up for bill matches
- Ensure timely Customs release, arrange delivery and billing
- Pay freight, handling and terminal charges as necessary
- Classify tariff codes accurately for a variety of products
- Enter detailed information into the U.S. Customs system and ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements
- Collaborate with internal teams and external partners to gather necessary documentation and information for import entries
- Facilitate border crossings during shipments, ensuring all customs requirements are met
- Stay updated on changes in customs regulations, tariff classifications, and industry best practices
- Review and resolve any discrepancies or issues related to import entries in a timely manner
MUST HAVE EXPERIENCE
- Customs Entry Writer with deep Cargowise experience
- Certified Customs Specialist (CCS) with strong regulatory knowledge and documentation precision
- Knowledgable in CF 7501, ISF filing, PSC corrections, ABI rejections, FDA refusals, and Customs trouble shooting with CBP, IATA, TSA, EPA, FDA, Fish & Wildlife, Agriculture AQI/USDA, and PGAs
- 100% fluent in Englishβ exceptional for cross-border coordination
- Experience with Managed import compliance, classification, and duty payment processes
Basic Qualifications
- Must be organized
- Proactive, detail-oriented, and used to working with fast-moving, compliance-driven freight environments
- Know how to prioritize tasks based on the importance or urgency of shipments
- Time management is important with the ability to meet demanding deadlines
- Detail oriented, as incorrect information can cause problems
- Ability to multiple tasks
- Analytical thinking to solve problems
- Proficient computer, Microsoft Excel, Word and Teams. Cargowise and ACE portal.
- Effectively communicate with superiors, clients both verbally and in writing
- A desire to want to learn and work
Preferred Qualifications
- Knowledge in freight forwarding and customs activities
- College education
